I was just looking at ordering Eerdmans New Testament Studies Upgrade (3 vols.) as I want to get a hold of Paul and the Gift by John Barclay, but I don't own the set that it's upgrading - can I just check it's ok to purchase it? The "upgrade" wording makes me a bit nervous...
Yes, you can purchase collection upgrades independent of the original collection.
And, now that you mention it, I can see how "upgrade" could be a confusing word.
James: Yes, you can order these 3 books independently of the older, larger collection. I, too, want Barclay's volume so have pre-ordered the 3 books, even though I do not own the previous collection.
