Waste of Screen Real Estate

Below is an image of the home page ribbon on my netbook. I currently have 6 reading plans and a prayer list and I can only see one item at a time. The ribbon is precious home-page real estate and as you can see on the screenshot of my ribbon below an extra reading plan or prayer list could easily be shown. But currently it is wasted.

So I suggest something be done with that waste of space. Most obvious and helpful to me would be to display an extra reading plan pane

Interesting ... I don't have the wasted space:

You can turn on whatever else you want to have shown on the ribbon via the Customize menu. For example, here's how to show two reading plans, and Prayer List is another one of the options you could turn on.

I note that all three screen shots show a different amount of space between the Go box and the first item on the Ribbon. Mine is different from all three. I have less wasted space than Jacob, but more than Rosie.

This is not particularly surprising or earth shattering news. How much "wasted" space there is depends on the width of your Logos window. If I resize my Logos window, that extra space shrinks or grows accordingly. Screen resolution will be a factor as well. If there's enough extra space to fit something else in on the ribbon that you've turned on, it will be displayed, otherwise not (you'll have to scroll the ribbon to see more items), and the space will appear to be "wasted."

    Interesting. Thanks for the illumination.

As you stated Rosie this earth shattering news, but what Jacob is talking about has been an on-going concern of many users since the original Beta days - as I am sure you are aware of.  It makes sense that the area changes based on the variables mentioned, but in general the area that is wasted is an annoyance at best.

Not everyone is running Logos on external monitor - especially those using just notebooks - or fewer on multiple monitors. I know of several here on the forum that do, but I would hazard to guess they are not the majority (although it would be nice [:)]). When I go an demo Logos 4, I project it on to a large screen which is really nice, but when the image is magnified using a projector these little annoyances increase it to bigger annoyances. The same is true when running straight off my notebook because of the amount of real estate. I think most people would like to maximize their real estate for their studies.

With that said it doesn't seem unreasonable that the "Go" box and area in the three images be fixed to the end of "Go" box (leaving a bit of space for the control arrows) so that the space grows with the resize/resolution changes. But would also reduce the amount of dead space in that area and allow for more items to be displayed depending on the afore-mentioned variables.

Rosie, it is just a resolution issue. As you mentioned, I can mimic the wasted real estate issue that I find on my netbook on my desktop by resizing the window "just right". Perhaps this issue is unavoidable, but certainly an annoyance.

Jacob, what resolution is your screen? It appears that the cut-off for one item in the ribbon is right around 970 (maximized). So there should be enough space on a 1024px wide screen for two items to show. Also, do you have program scaling set to anything other than 100%?

Is anyone missing the fact that...regardless of resolution, if you don't have any of those features enabled, for whatever reason one may have...it's wasted space.

It would be nice if we could re-purpose it as a custom option for the individual. Some large short-gut icons maybe.

This is a wonderful typo. I wish my typos were as much fun.[:D]

My resolution is 1024x600. Program scaling @ 100%. But it looks like my windows taskbar placement is to blame. My fault not yours. I have my taskbar on the right like this:

I love the short-cut icons idea. Short cut icons  could be a very good way to "quick start" out of the homepage. If we could use that extra space to the left of the reading plans (or in lieu of the reading plans in Anthony's example) for short cut icons, it would add a lot of flexibility and very little to no waste real estate.
