In the notes box there is a dropdown box on the upper right corner it has Full, Compact, Split & Quotes. What they for? how do they work? Thank you

Those are simply "views" of your note documents. The best thing for you do do is to create a note document (i.e. "delete me"), and add some highlights and other notes to it and switch between the views so that you can see how each view looks.
