I'm reading through Edersheim's The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah and in particular the last week of Christ's life.

I've been doing this for years, but I was wondering is there a resource/book that is similar in style (engaging) and in depth as his, but in a more updated book?

Edersheim sure is a classic but you are right that it is not exactly up to date. I too have wondered if there was a modern equivalent so your question caused me to reflect on what's in my library on this topic. Here are a few worth considering:

Hey Bruce Great suggestion. I even have that resource (update ed.). I've just skimmed over it and I do like the "for further study" and "questions for review" sections.

I'll give it a shot unless something else comes up, but this is perfect!
