One type of typical thread on this forum goes like this. Person asks if faithlife can match the price of a book or collection which is more expensive at Logos.com than somewhere/anywhere else. Many folks jump in to suggest that it is reasonable for Logos to charge so much more since they add value. Said person probably goes away and purchases elsewhere...
So... I won't ask for a price match because I know how the thread goes. I also won't call to ask for a price match because I have been mocked by sales staff for asking much less (when dynamic pricing missed a large collection I already owned).
Now here is the problem, and hopefully the discussion... the price gap widens and causes customers to leave. When I started buying from Logos, everything I purchased quite obviously represented excellent value because it was actually cheaper. Often not by much but at least a few cents. Sometimes in a bundle which is significantly cheaper.
Today I'm looking at a book and from Logos it costs more than twice what it costs elsewhere... This is a book which in my view should only have ever been a vyrso book but actually is a Logos one. It is not public domain, it is a recent publication. It doesn't matter which book because it is representative of a trend. Price is not my only consideration when I buy a book and I have several times paid more for something to get it in my Logos library - even public domain works. I understand and appreciate the value that Logos adds. It's something I've been willing to pay for when I need that extra value.
Particularly for none reference monographs, which I will likely read only once, the value proposition of Logos is not reasonable at 2x market value. I am starting to buy books elsewhere because of this and I think it is a shame if senior staff at faithlife don't realise they are getting their prices wrong and loosing customers over it.
I showed Logos to a friend recently and he looked up the next book he was planning to buy and saw the price and told me he didn't have money to waste. Compare that to my story. I wanted to buy Futato's Beginning Biblical Hebrew when I started at college several years ago. It was so much cheaper at Logos that I jumped straight in. Now I have 6622 resources!
Faithlife, Please consider price matching and the positive effects it could have on customer satisfaction and gaining new business! Or perhaps consider making it a benefit of Logos Now?
