Suggestions for Offline use
First, I would like to say that I am very excited that Logos is starting to develop on mobile devices. It has been great to be able to take books on the road and this has already enhanced my ability to utilize my Logos library since I am often away from my computer for extended time (weeks at a time).
I have been using Logos on my iPod Touch quite extensively and feel the following changes are very important to make it useful.
All of these suggestions are for when Logos is used in Offline mode, since that is how I use it 99% of the time.
VERY IMPORTANT
1. Save last place in books
Currently, Logos does not save the last place in books. This makes the application almost useless for regular use. I have to be very careful to never change books. This includes not using it for looking up a Bible reference etc. If I ever change books, the book I was reading is reset to the cover page and I have to find my location again. This makes Logos almost useless as a book reader and completely useful for looking up cross-references, etc.
IMPORTANT
2. Do not auto-rotate (some other apps have the option to turn off Auto-rotate. This feature needs added to Logos.)
I like to read in bed, etc. If my iPod is tilted, it rotates the screen. This has several problems: 1. I always have to be sitting upright to read and make sure to never tilt the iPod. 2. When it rotates and then rotates back it often loses its location and I have to jump forward a few screens. 3. If it rotates and then rotates back quickly (within 2 seconds), the right edge is often off the screen.
3. Search Library for a book
If I am in the Library and search for a book, the search feature does nothing. In order to find a book, I need to go through all the off-line books in my library to find the book I am looking for (which is quite a few since I loaded most of them for offline use).
The above would make Logos much more useful simply as a book/Bible reader. However, to make it useful as a Bible application, one more is needed:
4. Search Bible text
This does not have to allow complex searches across multiple Bibles. Just a simply surface level search will suffice. Even my Bible software for my Palm Pilot from many years ago allows me to search the open Bible. Without this, Logos is not useful as anything beyond a book reader (and even that is lacking without, some of the changes mentioned above).
Logos does have a nice look and feel and I am very grateful, but at the same time, these changes would make it MUCH more useful both as a book reader and Bible program.

5. Updating Reading Plans - When you read off-line and click on unread so it changes to read. That change is not reflected when you go back on-line. If you are off-line for a few days, like I was recently, it is annoying to have to go back and update all your reading plans again. Obviously, not a big issue, but it would be nice to have.

6. Split screen
So I can open a bible and a commentary at the same time. Without this feature, I like using Olive**** better.0 -
This makes Logos almost useless as a book reader and completely useful for looking up cross-references, etc.
Oops, this should say "USELESS for looking up cross-references"

Yeah, those are very different.

Unless you first save it as a favorite, then it remembers where you left off.

This is great to know. Is there a way to add something as a favorite without being online? I swipe up and hit to add the resource as a favorite, but it doesn't do anything. (It takes me to my list of favorites (1 book), but doesn't add the new resource.) I don't have wireless or ready access to it.
Thank you,

My iPod Touch fails to open the app (actually it shows the splash screen and then goes away) when I have the wifi enabled but actual access is not available (there may be available networks but they require authentication) If I turn off wifi then I can use it in Offline mode ( the Offline message comes up). I wish it would always open where I left off instead of making me choose the Read icon.

I was just looking at my original request list for using the iPod/iPhone software offline (which is almost always how I use it). It was good to see that the top 2 are now taken care of. Thank you Logos! Are there any plans to add any of the other features for offline use?
VERY IMPORTANT
1. Save last place in books NOW AVAILABLE - Thank you Logos
IMPORTANT
2. Do not auto-rotate NOW AVAILABLE - Thank you Logos
3. Search library for books - This would make it much easier to find a commentary on a certain book, etc. especially for commentaries with a long name and the book it is commenting on at the end of the title (thus off the screen)
7. Links to Bible text pop up the text - a feature I often wish was available in offline mode
4. Search Bible Text - To use as a Bible application, not just a book reader
5. Update Reading Plans (added by others, personally not a feature I would put in my top few requests, but would be nice)
6. Split Screen (added by others, personally not a feature I would put in my top few requests, but would be nice)
Logos, thank you for all you work on this app. With the ability to save the place in a book and auto-rotate shut off, it has developed quite a bit since the beginning.
Blessings,
Rob

#3 is already available unless I misunderstand the request. #7 will be available with the next release.

I think he means being able to do this offline. As repeated many times all searching is done on the Logos server side which is why the Logos app doesn't do it when not online.

You can search the titles of books in the library while offline.

You can search the titles of books in the library while offline.
This doesn't seem to be working for me. In my Library I typed "anti" and started the search.
1. It took around 10-20 seconds to enter each letter
2. The search didn't do anything. All of my books were still showing.
This is the same behavior it has had from the beginning.
Is it possible that this feature is available in an upcoming release that I don't have yet (running 1.4.0)? Hoping...
I am not expecting to be able to search the whole book (though that would be great), just the titles (and possibly the tags, though that would just be a bonus).
Thank you,
Rob

Sure enough, library filter isn't working offline in the current release. I found and fixed the bug just now. I am unable to reproduce the 10-20 seconds per character though. Are you completely offline or is this a limited connectivity situation where you are connected to a network but can't reach the Internet?

Hi Dave,
I just timed it and the delay for simply hitting "r" was 23 seconds. Every letter takes that long to enter. I know others have mentioned this previously in the forum.
I am completely off line. My wifi is shut off and even if it were on, there are no wifi connections available. If there is anything else I can do to help recreate or solve this issue, I am glad to help, but don't know what other info to give.

I forgot to thank you for fixing the bug on the library search. It will be great to have that fixed when the next release comes out.
It seems my top 4 requests will all be taken care of after the next release (2 of which are already done). Thank you so much!
Now if a basic Bible search can be done offline all my top request will be done and this will be a great application for offline use... , though I realize that may be a bit more complicated and not included so quickly. (For now I am still using my 9 year old Palm Pilot for Bible reading since the free Bible program, Bible+, can do a basic search.)
Thank you so much for all your (and the other developers) work,

How do you save the last place in a Logos iPod application?
0 -
The last position is saved automatically. There is a bug preventing it from restoring correctly in some situations; that will be fixed in the next version.

It seems the next release will be including some nice feature updates and bug fixes. Looking forward to it.
