A model for accessing all our library on the iPhone (or mobile web)?

Tonight I was checking on a software that I own and came across something rather interesting.

But first I would like to apologize if I may be offending the forum guidelines by the mention of another software, but I think this is important in the discussion.  I'd be most obliged to remove the names and links off the post if anyone thinks that this is indeed inappropriate.

Anyway it's an electronic library software called the Digitale Bibliothek, though I own a small library of it, it does not hold a candle against my Logos library. Smile  I discovered tonight that they had a new release (okay maybe not that new but I haven't been checking for a while), and I was caught very much by surprise to find the following changes in the new version:

1. Ability to remove DRM off all their books.

2. Export books to PDF, ePub, XML, HTML, RTF or TXT

3. A function in the software to allow the user to set up a server in his own PC so that he has access to all his DB library on his phone (or other mobile device that has a browser)!

Now I'm not sure about how it all (legal aspect and so on) work out for them, but I'm sure the German eBook giant should have all legal issues sorted out, or else they'll be sued and out of business in no time.  There are certainly many challenges (legality, impact on existing and on-going negotiations with publishers etc) if we were to import this model in Logos; but if we could sort things out too and do something similar to DB (I'm thinking of #3) it would be really great as we could finally have access to all our library on our phone, which we have invested so much in the first place!

Amy, totally off topic and for that I apologize. But as far as I am concerned you have found the correct way to handle the forum guidelines by saying in advance you are aware of the possible conflict and that in your opinion the post does not violate them. Good Job!

Sorry for the rabbit trail, back to your topic [:D]
