Clarification about Journals

One thing that I was super excited about when Logos 6 came out was the new Journals section. But, I never use it because I've found that it doesn't find hardly any journals related to what I'm trying to search. I'm not trying to hammer Logos for this (though I don't understand why you'd come out with the feature and promote it and yet it doesn't perform well).

I mainly and looking for clarification. I noticed the new Journals section in Factbook on 6.10. So, I checked it out. I typed in Ephesians and it came back with 12 journals total. Then, I go to my Journals collection, click on "heading text" and search "Ephesians" and get 317 results in 233 articles in 149 resources.

Can someone explain to me why such a radical difference? I know there is a reason for it, I just don't know what it is.

I've also been noticing that a ton of journals are getting updated e.g. tons of Tyndale Bulletin and WTJ were just updated. Is this related to what is going to get the Journal's section to function well?

I always want to emphasize, I'm super thankful for Faithlife/Logos. Seriously. Thank you for what you do. I hope you know the importance of what you do as a business. It's greater than making money and having a job. You really impact a lot of peoples lives in doing what you do. So, thank you!

Hi Ryan

if I understand it right, that the Journals just show up if an Artikel is tagged with what you are Looking for. In the Collection it just do a Word Search, that why we get more Results.

I figured it has to do with tagging.

I don't fully understand what the purpose of the journals section is. It is the furthest thing from utilizing your resources.

John's search returns all journals that make any reference (however small) to the specified passages. The intent of the Journals section in Factbook and the Guides is to show all journals that are primarily about the specified passages.

For example, the second item in the search results in the screen shot is a section of an article that talks about the passage Matthew 5:21-48, but the journal article itself is actually about "Christian Morality: Jesus’ Teaching on the Law", and covers more than just that passage. By contrast, the article in the Journals section is "The Old Testament and Christian Faith: Jesus and the Old Testament in Matthew 1-5". The article is primarily about Matthew 1-5 (which includes the specified passage range).

I hope that makes sense and explains why there is a large difference in the number of results.

It would seem better, from my perspective, to let us sift through the topic the article is approaching. I mean, the article that does come up, it seems to me this is still topical in that it is approaching OT in NT in Matthew 1-5 (hermeneutical in nature). It is not purely about Matthew 1-5. It seems that since the second article in the search above probably has more interaction with Matthew 5:27-30 than the one the Journal sections pulls up. Both are going to be topical. This is the nature of articles. It's very rarely going to be straight exegesis on a passage because that is for commentaries.

I'd personally reconsider the approach of this. I believe it would way more effect as a section. I never use it as it is because I know that the collections search approach is going to get me a far better picture of what is going on in my journals. Just a user suggestion.

The part that deals specifically with journals begins at 4:11, but if you don't know how to create custom guides, then the whole video should be beneficial.
