Be aware that Kindle e-readers must be updated before the end of the month or face being a brick:
How to update Kindle: Update before 22 March or your Kindle will die http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/tablets/how-update-kindle-update-before-22-march-or-your-kindle-will-die-3636431/
Boy, am I glad I never bought a Kindle.
That's ABSOLUTELY not true. If you do not update by March 22, you won't "brick" your Kindle. Not updating before March 22 means that the device will continue to work just like it always has. However, after March 22, you won't be able to add any new books via your wifi interface with Kindle, or access your cloud account, until you update your software.
Also, there is no "new" update version. The most current updates are months, to over a year old, depending on the model you have. If your reader has been connected to wifi within the last six months or year, it will probably have updated itself to a necessary version.
Major overstatement.
Having said that, I appreciate the heads-up to all Kindle readers.
Wow. Just because they require devices more than three years old to do a quick update, in order to keep interfacing with their cloud storage?
Now, Al.
True on brickification. Only phones brickify.
But not true on updates. I have an older paperwhite, and a newer voyager. The voyager has been busily updating in its voyages around my house over the last year or so. The paperwhite happily downloaded purchases ... just never updated. And the settings update was greyed out ... as if all is updated. Not so. You have to leave the kindle connected for a while ... only then!
Now it's safely updated ... thanks to this thread.

I resent superficial derrogatorization of the elements of my trade.

Ok, ok. I apologize for my derogatorizationizing. I sure hope you don't have to gather your own hay for your bricks.

Hay, ([;)]) I'm just glad we could find common ground regarding derogatorizationizingisms. I feel validated. Now, excuse me, I need to go listen to a hit song by the Commodores.
