Another dynamic pricing error

I was thinking about buying the Crossway Apologetics Collection. At least I was thinking about it...

PS - There's an error in the HTML on that page. I suspect you're missing a closing HTML tag or two. Note that the recommendations section appears at the bottom, rather than at the side.

The HTML issue is fixed. Thanks for pointing that out. As far as the comparison chart "exclusive price": this is pulling in the lowest current price for these products. Currently, a number of the included products are on sale (March Madness, monthly sale), making it cheaper to buy them separately (at this moment!). We figured it would be best to configure this to let customers know when they can get a better deal purchasing the volumes individually.

That's good of you to be transparent about the comparative price, thank you, but why wouldn't the dynamic price calculator just take that into account?

Dynamic Price = min(Calculated Dynamic Price, Calculated Individual Price)

I'm really glad that the calculator shows I could by buying separately, but I agree with William. The dynamic pricing calculator needs to adjust so that it's not over the "sold separately" price, even if there's a sale on.

    Hi Mark,

I'm not seeing any pricing errors here, but a pretty good setup to dig into what's going on promotionally, thank you.

The Crossway Apologetics Collection has a regular price of $189.99.

The contents of the Crossway Apologetics Collection have regular prices of $221.90.

Buying the collection saves the user approximately 15% on a normal day.

However, this isn't a normal day, we're in the midst of March Madness. (These deals are a slam dunk!)  There are other sales going on as well.

What you're seeing on the collection page in the "new to you" area is the Dynamic Price of the collection shown in red, and the sum of the individual titles at their current sale price in black.

A number of individual titles in the Crossway Apologetics Collection are on sale.  The first one I checked was 34% off.  This is more than double this discount you get by purchasing just the collection.  So, buying the dynamically priced collection is a better deal than purchasing the remaining volumes at their regular price. But, the savings to purchase individually at sale pricing is currently a better deal.  Someone who owned none of the collection would save $14.79 by purchasing individually.

I'm going to make the assumption that you received one of the coupons for 20% off a select live Crossway Collection because you pre-ordered an eligible Crossway Prepub Collection that shipped yesterday.  (If anyone wants to read up on this promo click here, it's a good one too.)

Your 20% off coupon is worth $8.07 if you were to use it on the Crossway Apologetics Collection and you were comparing the difference between the Dynamically Priced collection with coupon and the sale prices of the remaining individual titles without the coupon.

I'll also make the assumption that you've got more than 1 Crossway Pre-Pub that is going to ship as part of the Crossway Pre-Pub Promotion, so you'll be getting more than just a single 20% off coupon. If you took full advantage of this promo, you would get 24 separate coupons for 20% off a select live Crossway Product, 1 each time a qualifying Pre-Pub shipped to you.

Here's an interesting twist.  The pre-pub that shipped yesterday for $34 came with a 20% off coupon worth $128 off the Preaching the Word Commentary  for someone who owns none of it.  Anyone interested in adding these Crossway Collections to their library definitely be looking at the current Crossway Pre-Pubs. Crossway Martyn Lloyd-Jones Collection Upgrade (4 vols.) should be the next to ship.

Thank you Derek, Glenn, and team, for continuing to improve the web store.

We'll take the suggestion of adjusting Dynamic Price to the sum of the resources current sale price into consideration.

I'm glad to hear that.  It's very confusing the way it is now.  The very detailed and complex explanation you offer is not easy to understand in the specific example, and even less so for many of us who are experiencing other scenarios.

Several new posts in the General Forum tell us that the community is still confused.  We would appreciate some simplicity and transparency in the process.

I think it's fair to say that we are mostly unhappy with how it is working today.

That way the Dynamic Price, over time, will once again be trusted.  Perhaps there are difficulties in making this happen; yet, I have always thought reductions in price because of sales were automatically included in Dynamic Pricing.
