Microsoft .NET question

What version of Micrrosoft .NET is supported? Will version 4 work? I have read mostly about version 3.51 here.

Are there any other Windows resourses required?

I've had a long term problem getting Logos 4 not to crash on my laptop and went through level 1 and 2 phone support, got remote logging from tech support, they took a large log off my computer directly and showed it to the programmers. They were not able to figure it out. Then I noticed I didn't have .NET installed and active. I installed version 4 because it seemed newest. I have had some good sessions but it still crashes. I don't want to travel and not be able to get on randomly.

Can someone list here every resourse, driver, program, etc.. that Logos 4 depends on in Windows. Then I and others can see if the system is setup properly for what is needed. Would be nice to see the actual driver names it needs so we can check if there is corruption there.

.NET framework 4.0 has not yet been officially released by Microsoft, and therefore isn't supported by Logos. It's not due out until April 12. Logos will be supporting 4.0 (indeed, some fixes are dependent on 4.0), but I would suggest you remove 4.0 and install 3.5 until it comes out of beta.

Only Logos could answer this question. And should they do so (I'd like to see this, too), I hope it'll be in an area of their web site we can easily find (either here http://www.logos.com/support or here http://www.logos.com/support/techfaq#sysreqs), but not in the forums.

There are changes to WPF that will come with .NET and will help with some display issues, particularly clarity of display, and possibly speed. They've been discussed here and here.

If not able to get a list of system requirements I'll ask some one at a time until I figure things out myself.

Does Logos 4 need internet explorer at all?

Does Logos 4 depend on any external function explorer uses?

I had a converstation with a Logos tech rep. I mentioned I used a 64 bit system. He said he does too and Logos 4 works fine. I mentioned I am not able to see Youtube video with my 64 bit browser because there is no Flash Player from Adobe yet. He said he is able to see Youtubes but he uses his 32 bit browser. (I also use my 32 bit browser as needed.) He might have success with Logos 4 becaus ehis 32 bit browser is set to default and I have my 64 bit explorer set to default.

Does anyone know howI set my browser to 32 bit version DEFAULT?

Logos 4 doesn't depend on Internet Explorer like Logos 3 did. Even if it did, it wouldn't matter what the default browser was set to. As I said, using an unsupported beta version of .NET is asking for trouble. If you replace that, then post some logs of crashes, we might be able to help. Anything else will just be speculation.

Ok I did change to version 3.51 of .NET yesterday and it didn't help. Or I wouldn't be asking again now for more help.

I have posted many logs before and had a log done remotely and downloaded from my own computer by Logos staff before. I'll post more logs here if it will help.

You could try version 4.0b of Logos. That's also still in beta, but it does more detailed logging, and has many bug fixes. You'll want to read this post before you try: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/8883.aspx

I should say, that this might introduce more problems, or may make the existing problem worse. On the other hand it may fix it. But as you don't have a huge amount to lose, you may feel the beta is sufficiently stable for you to risk it. (FWIW, I've been running the beta on my primary installation since it came out several weeks ago.)

I installed beta, good idea for something to try. Still hangs when the home page is called up. Interesting I can run the mouse over the blank screen and when it turns into a hand click and it will launch a page as if the page is there but it is just a white screen. Seems to be hung somewhere mid cycle on home page start?

Two more suggestions. First,hold CTRL when loading and bypass the home screen.

I've been a beta tester for years with some medical software I use so am comfortable with the beta idea.

I'll figure this out in some time. And should learn a great deal along the way. I do have Logos 4 running well on my desktop at home so can use the excellent product.

Michael, the logs show no crash error. Do you have a crash.txt file in the same folder as your logs? Please upload as it is produced when there is a crash.

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 completely. Uninstalled both Logos 4 items in Control Panel. Deleted all remnants of file folders for Logos 4 from computer.

Reinstalled Logos 4b by download and full 9.1 gig download and re-indexing.

This morning I closed Logos 4 which had been open all night with the downloads. Closed my anitvirus Zone Alarm just in case of interaction. Started Logos 4b. It opens with the blank screen. I clicked on that picture of Mt. Tabor. Bible opens and the window for the Mt. picture opens then nothing. Hangs. I check for the log files and nothing there. I thought Logos 4b auto logged.

Restarted the computer, closed antivirus. Ran the script to turn on logging. Started Logos4b. It opened to the blank screen. I clicked on the daily Bible reading on top ai I would every day. It started to open but quickly went non-responding. 3 logs present:

I'll move to the beta forum but just for anyone answering here I'll post the laptop specs if that would help. I appreciate any help.

HP HDX18, Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad core, 4 Gb RAM, nvidea graphics, 1920X1080 18 inch screen, Windows 7, The machine came as a Vista laptop and I installed Windows 7 using the complete replace method (Not over Vista)
