Version Order

I have created a "comparison" tab with fifteen Greek and English versions. I have tried various options to put them in the order that I want; yet when I open the program afresh, the versions are inevitably put in alphabetical order rather than the order I want them in. How do I put, and keep, versions in the order I want?

Strange - I've just tried this and the order is preserved.

Is there a dropdown menu which has the versions in the order you specified?

I'm running on Windows - which platform are you using?

And which version of Logos 6?

I have made an assumption that your "comparison tab" is the tool labeled "text comparison." (as Graham and Everett are using as well). If so, then I also have created a list of 15 greek and english Bibles in random order, closed Logos, and reopened to find the tool listing them in the same order. in addition to what Graham has offered for questions, I just want to check out--are you using the same tool?

Dunno.

Maybe Faithlife should identify Logos-published authors' profiles with an icon, maybe a quill, in the same manner that MVPs have an identifying icon. I've only seen a few of them post (Devin Roza, Dan Phillips, Rick Brannon, James White), but I'm sure there are others. I think it would be interesting to know.

My results are the same as Graham.

You can "click" on their name and it will take you to the Faithlife page...if they have filled out their profile, you can find out that information...and in this case it says that this is "the" Doug Moo.

I believe that the OP is speaking of ta Multiview Tab where my last used list retains the order that I entered them. I recall having the problem the OP described but don't recall what I did to resolve it.

I set up multi-view for the first time, then closed my program and restarted. It came up with resources in same order. Not sure what OP is referring to, unfortunately.

I finally remembered what was in the back of my mind. When you use the Text Comparison tool with a Collection, the collection is generally in alphabetic order. You need to reorder the collection before you use it in the Text Comparison ... a Logos employee showed that you could.

To elaborate: Logos 6, using the "Comparison" tab -- which displays my saved collections. I just started over, creating a new collection by dragging into the list from the library the texts I wanted in the order that I wanted. As soon as I finished, it re-ordered them all in alphabetical order. This, then, of course, is the order they appear in when I go to the comparison tab with this collection enabled.

Okay ... I'll try to track down the Faithlife employee post with the solution ... it wasn't that long ago I was complaining about that behavior.

I have a work around. Clunky but works.

Open Text Comparison, then in the Resources box, type in your Greek and English versions in the order you want with a comma after the word and then the next version and repeat.

For example: ESV, AGNT, NLT, UBS5, NKJV, Alford (can have space after comma or not. Doesn't seem to matter).

Once the comparison screen comes up and you are satisfied with the order, drag the Text Comparison tab to Favorites. Rename the Link to something meaningful like Greek-English Version Comparison.

I've shut down Logos and reopened, called up Favorites and clicked on the saved Text Comparison and every time the correct sequence opens.

Hope this helps. If I have totally misunderstood, please let me know.

MJ, this seems to ALMOST be what you were thinking of . . . but not quite. Maybe it will help jog your brain. Or maybe it was what you were thinking of, without a total solution, only a promise.

Douglas, this likely shows my own ignorance, I am a bit rusty. But for sake of clarification:

1. By "comparison tab" to you mean that you have a "text comparison" tool opened? That is my assumption (and further more, you are not using the Multiview function that MJ highlighted above?)

2. Furthermore, my assumption is that you have made an actual Collection of Bibles that you opened within the Text Comparison tool?

as for building collections, mine are all alphabetically listed. I have not been able to even set it up other than in alphabetical order. Dragging/dropping automatically does that.

If the above is correct, I wonder about just typing in the order of the bibles that you want into the box on the text comparison tool which is what Graham was pointing out above when he referenced the "drop down menu." which will keep a running tab of your most recently used groupings of Bibles.

If you make a lot of different lists of Bibles to compare, you might want to save your text comparison tool on its own layout, so that it will always open with those resources listed as you like them.

If you don't make a lot of lists, say, just one or two, then that list will show up under the "recent" section, and in the order you set it up with. You can just select that list when you open the text comparison tool

Personally added year prefix to Bible resource titles so alphabetic ordering of collection resources becomes chronological:

Also, year prefix sorts before Codex, Papyrii, and TENTGM resources. FYI: Dead Sea Scrolls have many fragments that start with a number so year prefixes sort after them.
