Is this fixed in 4.0b Beta ?

Had problem with the shortcut not retaining the property when dragging it from the command's drop down list to the shortcut bar. A Logos staff person identified that this was a problem in this post.

This would be a bug if show text comparison in new window
was a command it recognized in the drop down list. However since you
can open resources in new windows you should be able to open anything
in new windows. Thanks for the suggestion.

Edit: I must have typed something wrong on second try it recognizes
the command, but the shortcut does not retain that property, so this is
definitely a bug.

could someone with 4.0b Beta try this to see if it is fixed please.

Enter show text comparison in new window in the command box.
Drag the command to the shortcut bar
Click on the new shortcut and verify that the Text Comparison tool opens in a floating window (if fixed, the shortcut will open in a floating window, if not it will open in L4's main window) [this will work from the command bar, but not from the shortcut bar]

I don't even get the proposed command recognized by Logos as an internal command (as George indicated initially in his post):

This is in 4.0b Beta 12.

The matched (highlighted) command on the menu is simply Tools > Show Text Comparison, which opens in a tab. I don't know how you (Steve, and George on second try) were able to get it to recognize what you typed as a command.

Any of the other commands that match on the menu (which do open in a new window) are all opening a Search for the words show text comparison, not the actual Text Comparison tool.

And when you click on it in the shortcut bar, you should expect it to open Search in a floating window. Which it would do if you clicked on it in the drop down. (ignoring the search criteria, just to show that the properties for that command were not carried over to the shortcut)

BTW 4.0a accepts & shows these commands (see image below). They work from the command box, but not when made into a shortcut. Hopefully they will fix the bug sometime in the near future. This opens a lot of possibilities and power to the user.

Yeah I tried it a second time with Ctrl+Enter instead of Enter and it did indeed open a new window, and I can indeed drag that command to the toolbar (and you're right, it doesn't remember from there that it's supposed to open in a new window vs. a tab). But regardless, that command opens "Search for show text comparison" which isn't what you wanted. You wanted it to open "Text Comparison." There's a BIG difference:

Yes, that looks like a bug, which George has acknowledged.

That looks like a second bug, because what used to work has been broken in 4.0b. I hope they've got both bugs on their list of things to fix.

We were talking past each other because I was talking about the second bug, which got in the way of my even caring about your reported bug. Sorry about that. I wasn't disagreeing that your bug existed, just that it was irrelevant in the face of the other problem.

Please forgive me! i hope that i haven't caused you any grief.

i can see that i am verbally challenged [:)]. i am kinda like a Joe Friday (let me give you just the facts Ma'am) person when it comes to communicating via forum talk. i live in the south and some of our meanings/gestures are just the way we talk (at least in my circles).

My impressions of you from several of the posts that i have read are that you are a diligent person with curiosity enough to work thing out (what we would refer to a Missourian, show me). So i was trying to give you enough details to guide you in your investigation.

From my post that you replied to:

1st paragraph -- i was trying to guess what i remembered was written by George and how he said he had trouble.

2nd paragraph -- i was trying to give you an example of what to try (guessing that you were curious and wanted to get a means to figure out what was going on).

3rd paragraph -- i wasn't sure that i had described how it really worked to begin with.

4th paragraph -- i was excited that i had found many uses for which shortcuts could be used and wanted to share some of the examples with you.

Sorry for going thru this whole explanation. But thought and hope that we will get to on occasions work together on problems with L4 again. And by explaining my thoughts (interpreting my reply) that you might not take my replies the wrong way, but understand this may be the best i can communicate [:(] and there is definitely no harm/hurt/arguing meant by them.

If i have gotten the wrong impressions of you (as mentioned above), please forgive me again for another error. Hopefully i will learn to try and be more specific when communicating here.

Thanks for trying, Melissa said that this case was still open. So i hope to see it in the future. There are a few more things that i would like to work on the shortcut bar with a single click.

It does a search specifically in Top Bibles for whatever you typed in the command bar. It shows up as a menu shortcut in your screen shot. That's what got me to think of trying it. It's the same as selecting that item from the menu.

Later I looked in the Help file and it is documented there, too; I'd just never noticed it before.
