iPad 4 performance.

Is anybody else having performance problems with the iPad4?

In particular, it is note taking. It can take 10-20 seconds to respond ... if you keep typing in that time then the characters will all come out in a single batch (complete with Apple's dodgy auto correct). It seems to get worse the longer the note is ... but we are not talking more than a couple of hundred words before it becomes un-usable.

It also is extremely difficult to place the caret in the correct position ... again due to slow response.

I am not a touch typist ... and do not have this problem on any other app on this device.

It seems to be related to when the app started looking for 'live scripture links' ... and in the intervening time, seem to have gotten worse. I am not sure why it does look for live links, It would be better if the desktop app could do that later. It is almost as if every time I type, the app goes to the top of the document and rescans!

If the live links are the fault then is it posible to turn this feature off?

Out of curiosity: What do you mean by "iPad 4"? (There was never a device sold by that moniker). Do you mean an original iPad Air (rather than the iPad Air 2)?

iPad4 predates the iPad Air (I think it was the model 12 months prior to the release of the Air).

I also had an iPad 4th Gen and it was having the same issues. It would just sit there, and then all of a sudden it would try to catch itself up! Very hard to work with.

I had to go ahead and sell my iPad on http://itemcycle.com to supplement the cost of a new iPad Pro. I went with the smaller version since the big one just seemed like too much.

My iPad seemed to be slow whether or not I was in the app. I did notice it being especially slow within the "Live Scripture Links" area like you mentioned, so you might just be on to something.

I can say that my iPad Pro works better with FL apps than my 3rd gen retina iPad did. That said there are still the hiccups and slowness caused by being dependant on FL servers, but even that seems lessened on the new machine.

PS:I know i had said nothing but apologies to Alabama for thinking him wrong when he said there was no iPad4 by name... I knew my 3rd gen was never called officially iPad3 but iPad (3rd gen) Retina... In the same way iPad4 was officially known as iPad (4th gen).

Dan, regarding the hiccups and slowness you are experiencing - I expect it's network related and there's unfortunately nothing we can do to make the network better in the area you live. Performing a Google search depends on Google servers, but without a network the search won't work and this wouldn't be Google's fault. Similarly, the Guides do rely on Faithlife servers and without a network they won't work. There's always the option to put the device in airplane mode if you know the network is going to be bad. Of course that also means recognizing that some features won't work.

Yes Kevin I do realize that... I was just trying to point out that if his slowness were network related this would not fix it... many issues I had have disappeared since my new iPad I am no longer finding that scrolling back or forward to get to the spot i want to be with leaves me with a sticky lag for example. showing that problem was all hardware based... I know with a poor connection and a non-downloaded book I could still experience issues there since the book is being read off the servers and only so much is cached on the device. My goal has never been to decry FL apps as bad, my hope has always been for your apps to do more as other apps can...

Realistically, our apps have some features that other apps don't, and other apps have some features that ours don't. Every Bible app out there has a different feature set. In any case I expect you are referring to offline guide and word lookup support but I am unaware of any plans to add those features. If it becomes planned the UserVoice suggestion's status will change to Planned.

My iPad4 does not have 3G/4G, so the issues I am experiencing are all offline issues.

I do not like the idea of a hardware upgrade so that one piece of software will run correctly, especially when all other software works fine ... that said ... new kit .... Mmmmmm ![8-|]

As to the quality of the software ... I like what we have ... but as with the desktop ... I would sometimes prefer more speed and stability than new features ...

It was worse than ever today ... but I have found a temporary work-around ... and wonder if the word-around points to the problem.

My work-around is simple ... Turn of my WiFi before loading the Logos app. My church has no wifi ... but I usually leave it on since it does not effect any other app ... but in the case of logos it is almost as if it suddenly stops to sync ... and cannot connect to the server ... and waits too long! Meanwhile the typing buffer gets filled up and much typing is lost.

I do not believe that this is the only issue because before I found this work-around, I noticed that it seemed to be particularly noticeable when changing keyboards to the numeric or symbol keyboards.

If this is a solution then the bad news is now new iPad for me this year!

Please don't go out and buy a new device just yet.!
