Isaiah and the gospels

Hi Friends,

Which is the best way to find all the Isaiah's texts that are cited in the gospels, using logos 4? I only founded the contrary.

I would like to build a table starting from Isaiah 1 to 66 with all the citations of the text in the new testament.

It really depends upon what resources you have. I would start from Old Testament Quotations and Allusions in the New Testament. If I didn't have that resource, I'd either do a search on a study bible or a cross-reference resource - and then manually trim the list down.

Of course I will admit I was reading a white paper last night on a search designed to find such things (and infer search of a competitor) ... I was envious but won't resort to begging until I've gotten other more critical features for Logos 4.

Or the indexes in Beale and Carson's Commentary on the New Testament use of the Old Testament (although that's horribly slow due to a Logos bug). Perhaps better to do a search in that resource instead:

The first step would be to define what you mean by "texts that are
cited"; are you just referring to quotations or are you also including
possible allusions to passages in Isaiah. The problem is that there is no
consensus especially when it comes to allusions and what some classify as
quotations, others see them as allusions.

Two works are usually recommended: Old
Testament Quotations in the New Testament by Gleason L. Archer and Gregory
Chirichigno and the Index of quotations (OT order) in The Greek New
Testament 4th from the United Bible society. I do not have SESB, so I do
not know if Logos includes the Index of quotations. I do not think that Logos
has the former.

These two would be a good starting point since they are specifically
intended to provided quotations and/or allusions.

I do not recommended a general search in a work like Beale and Carson's Commentary on the New Testament use
of the Old Testament because it would cast the net a little too wide, yes
you will get hits for quotations and allusions, but you will also get hits for
similarity in themes, theological significance, grammatical constructions, help
for defining a rare term, and so on.

I just did a search of my NASB95 for <Isaiah> and got 7, 936 results in 788 articles. This would pick up every time Isaiah is mentioned in the cross-references. New Testament starts on page 7 (of 8) of the results. I don't know how to limit the search to just the NT.

If you have the resource "Old Testament Quotes in the New Testament" open it and do a basic search for Isaiah. It should produce 80 hits. You can then quickly extract the hits in the Gospels. If you do not have that resource let me know and I can quickly extract them and send them to you.

Excuse my english. What I mean by "texts that is cited" is quotations. The classic example is lc 4:18-19 quoting Is 58:6 and 61:1,2

The difficulty with "Old Testament Quotations in the New Testament" is that it organize the quotations from the NT point of view. I would like to have a list from the Isaiah point of view, you know what I mean?

This is very good if you are studying mark or other gospel and want to make the connection with Isaiah. This resource is very helpful in this case. But since I am studying Isaiah (almost) chapter by chapter it would be easier if I could organize in another way.

UBS4 stands for United Bible Societies' Greek New Testament (Fourth Edition)?

Tried to find What you said in this resource and I haven't find it

UBS4 is available in Logos (it comes with Original Languages on up but I don't see any way to order it as a stand-alone product). However, the Index of Quotations appendix is apparently only available in the print-based version. It is readily available for purchase on Amazon.com. Search for UBS Greek. I could not find any free preview pages available online there or on Google Books, unfortunately.

It would be great to get this Appendix into Logos!
