scrollbar scrolling

The current scrollbar cover the whole title. For Bible, the whole Bible, for books the whole book. Most of the time it is impossible to scroll over it to go to a certain place. e.g. when I am studying a ch., Zech 2, of course I want to scroll over the chapter only. So, I would suggest the Logos to changed the scroll bar which covers only the passage studying.

And how would Logos know the extent of the current passage you are studying? You might be intending to read all of Zechariah, or just Zechariah 2. You might not know where you want to stop when you first begin. You might become absorbed in your reading and want to scroll down further. It seems that limiting the scroll bar to only scroll through a single chapter would have to be a special mode you'd choose to get into for a limited time while working with a passage, but most of the time we should be free to scroll and PageUp/PageDown anywhere within the Bible or book that's open.

What the other software will normally do are these:

1) multiple scrollbar, each of them is having different range.

2) to scroll through the current chapter, but then when it is at the bottom of the chapter, you click the "down arrow" or press the "page down", then it jumps to the next chapter (and of course the scrollbar will go to the beginning of that chapter instead). To press once page down is much more convenient than the current method: to press down/page down every time I want to move to some other place.

3) One way that Logos might be able to do is this: there is a box at the top of the window indicating the passage I want to study, right? Then that one is the range of the scrollbar. BUT, currently the location is keep changing as you move along the passage.

As a curmudgeon on the topic of chapters and verses, I would find this extremely annoying.

However, I am suspicious that I may not correctly understand Kolen's overall suggestion as he indicates it is what other software does - but I've never seen it.

The multi-scroll bar technique is used by OliveTree.

And the one that has "variable" scrollbar is also used by bible.logos.com, and some other softwares.

Anyway, those are suggestions. The main point is that the scrollbar is useless. So, something needed to be changed to make it useful. Also, I dislike the use of up/down, page up/page down to move.

By the way, how you guys read the Bible in Logos? How you move around?

I think programming technique is independent of platform.

In my experience, user interface is very hardware dependent - think of the difference between keyboard, mouse or touch screen for primary input. What is easy, familiar and convenient for one is awkward for another. But your suggestion has merit - it is very easy to lose control of the scroll bar and end up far from where you intended.

I used PageUp/PageDown. I've always been more of a keyboard person than a mouse person. I agree the scroll bars in long books in Logos are kind of tricky to use. I'm not sure what the solution is.

I've never liked variable scrollbars because they are so unpredictable. You think you are nearly at the end of a work, but then you can still drag it down further and you see there's a ton more. I think the scroll thumb should be a visual indicator of how far down in the book you are.
