FWIW:
We are all aware by now that Logos 4 requires some serious downloading on a regular basis. Here is something that I recently discovered that has significantly increased my download speeds.
I subscribe to a 5Mb/s internet service from an ISP in Washington state. Typically, I used to see a maximum download speed of, say, 600 KB/s from the larger content providers like Microsoft or Adobe. Note: 600 KB/s x 8b/B x .001 M/K = 4.8 Mb/s - which is about right.
Recently, however, I upgraded my old DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem (ca. 2003) to a new DOCSIS 3.0 modem (Motorola SB6120 SURFboard eXtreme Broadband Cable Modem) and began to experiance some amazing download speeds without having increased the subscription level from my ISP. Just this morning, I downloaded a file from MS and saw a sustained download speed of 1.91 MB/s (1.91 x 8 = 15.28 Mb/s)! Others have reported similar results and Motorola claims that replacing a 2.0 modem with a 3.0 modem will yield up to 4x speed increases - more if you replace a 1.0 or a 1.1 modem.
In order to obtain these higher speeds, however, your ISP must have adopted the new DOCSIS 3.0 standard. Nevertheless, the speed increase is remarkable and worth mentioning for any L4 cable modem users out there.
ps. If you are renting your cable modem from the cable company for $5/month you have probably spent enough $ on the rental to have bought the equipment many times over. Purchase your own and spend the $ saved on Prepubs!
