Syntax

I am totally confused with the Syntax searching in version 4. I wanted them to make it more user friendly, but right now I do not think that they succeded in that. Can somone please post some screens shots on building a syntax search. I am not worried a particular thing to try and do. I just want someone to show me what a particular search query should look like. If you want to use the adjuncts in Romans 5:1 that fine. That's where I am. Thanks!

Is there anything the adjuncts in Rom 5:1 you find interesting that might be helpful to search for similarities?

Searching hasn't actually changed too much from version 3, the essential improvement is the ability to drag & drop elements and also the ability to right click for more options. Everything else may look different, but the basic concepts of v3 are still there.

As for Cascadia vs. Opentext, Cascadia is a more reliable database & uses more accessible terminology. What I'm finding is that most users tend to make it more complex than it is. Truly, the best way to figure out how to search using either databases is to basically choose syntactic structures directly from the text itself and try to replicate them in the search window. Play around with it that way and when things don't work out the way you expect (e.g. you don't get any search results for something you know is there), come over here to the forum, tell us what you're looking for, and we can work through individual searches together as a community.

I'm currently working on a paper/presentation examining the database in general which will be available at the end of this month (at BibleTech:2010). I intend to make it available to users here when its complete.

As Mike says, Cascadia is the easier database to construct a search from. Here is a video of me talking through constructing a video of a feature of Rom 5:1. Hope it helps.

thank you for your video...BUT it highlights something that is a MAJOR IRRITANT for me!!

When you chose a syntax search, it AUTOMATICALLY CHOSE THE Andersen Forbes database by default....

Even when you purposfully choose cascadia....you must change it one last time before you construct the search....

arggg.....LOGOS!!! PLEASE....have it default to the last search at least!!
