[NOT WORKING] - Readers Edition Interlinear w/Mounce Word List

Hello!

I have a problem with the Readers Edition feature in the interlinear working to sort through the text using Mounce's Word list (as found here under "Basics of Biblical Greek (W. Mounce)."

In essence, the action done in the video (https://www.logos.com/product/55916/readers-edition-interlinear) at 1:14-1:24 is not working for me. All the Greek words continue to have their definition, etc. shown under them when the filter with my word list is selected.

Please let me know your thoughts, or what you've done if you've faced something similar.

If it has a small number of words it will be difficult to find any hidden information unless you know where to look. Does the list have lemmas in the Lemma column? When you search for lemmas from the word list do they have hidden info? ---> assuming you have acted in accordance with the video.

Interesting! I tried it again and it went to the list on Faithlife for me just now. Not sure what's up, but it is also found here in a documents list by Dave Dunkin: https://documents.logos.com/users/191499/documents?offset=20&sortType=Date&sortOrder=Descending&privacy=All&documentKind=All. Hope you can get there and find it from there.

It's not a small list, as it contains all the vocab words in Mounce's Basics of Biblical Greek.

It does have lemmas for each word.

I'm not sure what you mean by "search for lemmas from the word list," but I have done all the steps that the video shows. (NOTE: if you follow the popup that comes up @ approx. 0:52 in the video, this is the same place where I got my list -- it's the one created 3 yrs ago near the bottom of the documents list).

I'm not sure if the words have hidden info, either.

That word list is not compatible with the Reader's Edition Interlinear feature because it does not include extra data that is required for the feature to work. Look for other word lists in the Word Lists for Flashcards Faithlife group that indicate they support audio. These should work as desired.

So the older list doesn't have some extra data in it (even though it has lemmas, etc.) and that's why it doesn't work. How would one go about building a list so as to exclude words from the readers edition (if I were to start my own list and format it to work appropriately)? Would they need an audio dataset, or something? I speak/type out of some ignorance here, but am curious.

Another quick followup:

Look for other word lists in the Word Lists for Flashcards Faithlife group that indicate they support audio. These should work as desired.

How do I know that there is audio in the word list? Do I have to download it first to tell?

In that group I see one list that has "audio" in the title (https://documents.logos.com/documents/70a48ae5051143c68623c5417817f6f8/details). WIll this one work? I see that it doesn't have lemmas in it so I'm guessing no.

Ownership of an audio dataset is not required, but it does make it easy to identify word lists that contain the needed data, because if you own an audio data set, then word lists with the correct data will show an icon next to the words that allow you to play a recording of the word.

I would recommend the section in the help file in the application on Word Lists. This should contain the information you need to get started: https://ref.ly/logosres/logos4help;hw=Word_List_Document

You will want to either right click on words in your Bible, select the lemma on the right, then choose to add them to an already open word list, or use the Add Lemma box at the bottom of the word list to add lemmas. When you add lemmas, you can use "g:" at the start to allow you to enter the English transliteration of the desired lemma (try typing: g:angelos).

You may want to do each chapter of vocabulary as a separate word list document to allow you to turn them on individually in the Reader's Edition as you learn them.

After you get the lemmas added, you may want to edit the Section field to include the chapter name. You may also want to edit the Gloss field to match the gloss provided by Mounce.

It appears that the Faithlife Group already contains word lists for chapters 4 and 6 ("BBG3 - Chapter 4 with audio", and "BB3 - Chapter 6 with audio").

If you do other chapters, you might consider sharing them with the group (using the Groups tool, or the "Share documents" link in the Documents menu). That way other people can benefit from your work!

Before I engage in this endeavor:

What list did the gentleman on the Logos video use? The feature seemed to have worked with that list and there is a popup in the video that takes us to the list(s) mentioned in the Faithlife group.

Also, is there any way to update the list I have w/said data? Or is this completely impossible/impractical?

Actually, it looks like "Basics of Biblical Greek Vocab with Most Audio" works pretty good.

Do you know if there's an existing list that will work for Pratico/Van Pelt? Again, it looks like I have an antiquated list (x2), but I do not think there is one w/audio (at least that I am aware of).

I'll ask around to see if I can find more information about the word list that was used. It doesn't look like it is available from the group anymore.

I'm not aware that you can update the existing list with the needed data.

I don't have any special knowledge about any of the word lists in that group. You may have better luck by posting a message to that group to ask about which lists may work correctly for Pratico/Van Pelt.

Basics of Bible Greek Vocab with Most Audio does seem to be fairly complete.
