I got a call yesterday from Logos in response to my not getting the Calvin Commentaries with the Calvin 500 upgrade. I was told that they could not find a record of me owning the Ages Commentaries and they were still "working on it." Then last evening I started thinking about all the people reporting problems with the old R.C. Sproul Library (which is L2) and the on going reports of people claiming missing resources in L4. And started wondering if there could be a connection here.
When I got to work this morning I ran an L3 Account Summery report and in the Logos 2 portion it clearly shows that I have the Calvin Commentaries. The fact that Logos can't see this from their end is very troubling. These licenses ARE OUR LIBRARY. Without them our digital books just disappear. Under L2 and L3 users could make their own backups, but now we are totally dependent on Logos to back these licenses up and to do so correctly.
I think it behooves us all to report any problems we are having with missing L2 resources in L4 so that if there is some problem on Logos' end on the way they are handling our licenses we can get this problem straightened out now. I also think this is another reason to keep L3 on our computers, because only L3 allows us to make personal backup files and restorations of our library that are not dependent on the "cloud." To be totally dependent on the "cloud" is just asking for trouble.
Please do not jump to the conclusion that I am suggesting any wrong doing on Logos' part. But this "cloud" thing is relatively new and I think it is premature to throw away all our old Logos 2 and 3 disks and remove L3 from our computers as some of you are doing. There very well may be a problem here and the only proof that you owned a L2 or L3 resource may now be in a landfill somewhere!
Until all the bugs are worked out of "cloud" computing, we would be all wise to BACK UP and BACK UP again.
