Install Logos 6 on Win 10 laptop just out of the box

Finally I have my new laptop - Win 10. It has two hard drives.

I purchased Logos 6 a little while ago but continued to use Logos 4 on my old laptop - Win 7.

Logos 4 downloaded new books which I presumed came with my new Logos 6 package.

Now I am ready to install Logos 6 on the new Win 10 laptop but my research seems to say that I should log on to my account and install the free engine and this will then download all resources I am entitled to (again). I already have many of the resources residing on my old laptop. Can I not copy them to the new laptop? Also, for space reasons, I want most resources to live on the much larger second hard drive. This is the arrangement I think I have currently (but I can't find the settings, maybe it was back in Libronix).

I thought I could create a folder on the big drive first, copy resources there and then install Logos 6 and the new installation would discover that there was much it didn't need to download.

Are my intentions reasonable or am I misunderstanding something? Is there a page that will help me with this?

Personally would upgrade to Logos 6 on Windows 7.

On a laptop with spinning hard drives, have partitioned drive followed by installing Logos on fastest partition. First partition (outer edge of spinning disk) has faster transfer than inner partition next to spindle. SATA III Solid State Disk is noticeably faster than spinning hard drives.

=> Quick Installation onto multiple computers (Custom installation allows folder to be chosen, which could be on larger drive)

=> Install in different folder or drive

One reason is to be compatible with recent changes to resource formatting, which means some resources won't download to Logos 4.

Method 3 in the Quick_Installation wiki will show you how to use the resources from your old laptop, as well as the link to install Logos 6.

Use the Custom option to choose the installation drive.

G'day Dave. Thanks for the tip. I haven't got as far as Method 1 yet, let alone Method 3. I'll keep on plugging.

I'm still curious why I should upgrade on Win 7 when it's heading for a shelf now that I have my new Brute. It has 512Gig SSD + 2TB. I understand now that some resources wouldn't have been available on the old workhorse. Among the reasons I didn't upgrade it back in April when I bought L6 was space - a 1TB split 1/4-3/4 filling fast.

I'm writing this on the workhorse and you ay notice misspelled words due to keyboard wear and tear.

I was second guessing with my answer, but it is now clear that there is no reason to do so.

I haven't got as far as Method 1 yet

Just go down to Method 3 and read all the relevant bits from there!

One idea for Logos 6 upgrade on Windows 7 is backup for new Brute. One option for copying files is enabling folder sharing on Windows 7 so can mount on new Brute then use scan command to copy resource files (including compiled personal books) to the new Brute.

Logos 6 performance is noticeably faster with SSD.
