Logos Greek Pronunciation

Why does Logos not have the same pronunciation as taught in Bill Mounce's textbook? Logos pronounces omicron as "oh" rather than "ah" in both Erasmian and Koine settings. This makes learning greek extra complicated for a beginner like myself.

Logos offers three different pronunciation systems for Greek (traditional Erasmian, historical Koine, and Modern.) There are a number of Erasmian conventions. It would be very confusing to try to include them all. Mounce’s convention is in the Erasmian system but varies from the traditional vein with they way he pronounces omicron the same as alpha. This never occurred in the Greek language at any time or any place. However, omicron and omega were confused. This has evidenced in misspelling from the earliest times. This is why traditional Greek grammars like Machen and classical Greek grammars like those produced by Oxford Press and Cambridge use the traditional Erasmian convention that maps omicron and omega with they same sound but different length. This doesn’t help with your task of learning to sound like Mounce, but hopefully it explains the reasoning behind the conventions we offer. It is a great effort to learn Greek but one that will pay dividends to the rest of your life. I’m encouraged by your zeal and willingness to learn this beautiful language.

John,
Thank you so much for your explanation! I will just stick to a convention offered in logos since I can check my pronunciation with any word within logos.
Thanks again!
