Sales is expected to dry a month or two before the cycle release. That's quite normal. Just like when people are expecting the new line of iPhone/Samsung Galaxy to come out, the current iPhone/Galaxy sales would drop. (Who would in their right mind buy an iPhone 6s on September when iPhone 7 is coming out in couple months or so)
So anyone here in the right mind (I hope & suggest) would hold their money 'till L7 base packages... of course unless they need it right now-right now.
Your analogy isn't totally equal, as with a cell phone, there are usually no benefits to purchasing the older device before the newer is released (except for maybe a discounted price). With Logos, the packages may be reconfigured, so as in my case, I wanted to make sure that I got the resources that are in Collector's Edition now, so I went ahead and made that purchase before L7 is released, which would make me lose the opportunity to go back. I also get a price break on the new release because my library is larger, so there is some incentive to spend more now.
Disclaimer: I hate using messaging, texting, and email for real communication. If anything that I type to you seems like anything other than humble and respectful, then I have not done a good job typing my thoughts.

We've had all of these discussions internally many times. We've tended to keep launches a secret so as not to unnecessarily slow sales, and we've addressed the "if I had only known" issue with a generous return/exchange/upgrade policy for recent buyers. It seems like a pretty good compromise. I say unnecessarily, because I think Joseph has it right, as I tried to explain several years ago. If people really understood that principle, we could safely advertise the launch date in advance without any negative impact on our sales. It might even have a positive impact.

FWIW: I think your thought process on the savings is slightly off. If you have a base package now and you upgrade to another with dynamic pricing, then you would not get close to the 5% making much of a difference. For the 5% discount to be an equal savings as the cost of Logos Now, you would have to spend around $1800 on a base package. Of course, new features now (rented now, purchased in new package later) may make you want to go with it. I opted to wait until L7 and spend that $89 on the package.

It sounds like the decision is easy then. So you will be announcing soon the Logos 7 launch date?

Considering I own Platinum Bilingual, Standard and Reformed Platinum along with the rest of the denominational base packages in Silver or Gold (the only starter BP I have is the Methodist/Weleyan one along with Verbum basic and bilingual and chaplain) I think my upgrade price will still be cheaper, should I choose to upgrade at least to Standard Platinum to get new features all across the other base packages and some new books in the process. So my math might not be so off. My last Platinum upgrade was $500 and the crossgrade was in the $500's too, so with LN membership and having more BPs now in L6, I think L7 won't cost as much 👍

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not. [:)] The answer, of course, is no. There will be no announcement of the launch date. There will just be the announcement that "it is here."
I wish there were a brief overlap of base package sales so people could really make the best decision. I wonder if licensing agreements play a hand in that not happening.

I fully agree, as an owner of multiple base packages, its the value of expensive sets at "base package" pricing, that one doesn't want to risk losing the opportunity for.

I wasn't really being sarcastic. I was agreeing with Phil's last sentence - announcing in advance could actual be a net positive, because folks who have been waiting for certain base packages will purchase those before they expire (because there is uncertainty about what the new package configurations will be). I think Faithlife should announce in advance. The uncertainty actually makes me want to wait. If it knew it was next week, I'd probably purchase another base package I have been eyeing now.

The head start to using more algorithms and some interface improvement have been the benefit of being a loyal subscriber, so far. (Online-only -access databases are usually of very very little value to me.) I was under the false impression that I'd get savings by subscribing long before a possible major version release. Now everyone, even those who have subscribed very briefly, seem to be getting the same discount on the future L7 upgrades, if FL rolls them out this ongoing Year (which I hope they won't do). Even if I would have less left to read from books I have since before and would have saved up some money, my opinion would definitely be the same.
I haven't purchased anything with the special coupon-codes that Logos Now subscribers got. I didn't expect to make several such purchases but perhaps one, but not until this ongoing August I found one preview item among those offers (coupon-code coming at the end of the Month) I might wanna have.
To me, it feels like a long time to subscribe two Years (plus the free 1 Month), meanwhile I sometimes benefit from the web app, but having to pay for a good manual keeps me back from using the added features. EDIT: Or even remembering which ones there are.
My suggestion would be that loyal subscribers would get a relevant manual for free or at a greatly reduced price! There might have been some such offer at one point but if there was the price was not right EDIT: and I was pretty broke during the first half of the Year; I would probably not pay more than $15 for a manual, at least not if it only contained Logos Now features and nothing more and didn't ship in a format ready to be printed out at home. By loyal subscribers I refer to those who have already, by this time, subscribed to Logos Now continuously for a long time, i.e. at least since last Year, or since last Summer. (I hope FL has kept track of who those were or that accessing the customer database for extracting those email addresses to send them the offer, would not be laborious.)
I sincerely hope FL decides to hone the product postponing the major release until there's a substantial difference to what's in the Store right now, both regarding what features to include at what level of ownership of license, and what individual titles, partial sets, or full sets to include at the different base-package/library levels! EDIT 6:11 PM Aug. 11. Bellingham time: FL has not made any promises of a release date, only promoted upgrading L6 base-packages while they are still available, FL is not bound to release this ongoing Year. I know this since I can now tell everyone something that happened to me during version 5: I was ordering a base-package on the phone, Bronze-level, while I was on the phone I changed my mind and got Silver level, in the order details it shows an order placed for Bronze + an upgrade placed right after it for Silver, well when I checked my bank account even though I had the full amount nothing got charged from my account - they had forgot to put through a charge on my card and all card details and everything were correct and I said I needed to give the CVV-code, and close to half a Year went by, until they discovered that and wanted to charge it and by that point I had deeply regretted Silver so I pleaded to only keep Bronze level and I ended up only needing to pay up for Bronze - i.e. which I had had for several Months and the additional books from Silver got erased from my computers. Both before and after that I've heard stories of people getting quite a bit of time to consider, in exceptional cases.
I already know I won't be subscribing most of the time. What I loose is the web app. I already own most of what I wish for and I have a hard time keeping up learning the new capabilities so I don't need to be first to get the very latest software possibilities. Goodbye to the hopes of getting benefits, I feel like I have just been paying more and more and that there's no easy way to get any not yet present feature in the future which I don't want to be without: low base-package levels or low crossgrade levels are unfortunately often among the worst option!! I would really struggle ever upgrading to Silver level again (I did once, to L6 Anglican Silver on Dec. 3. 2014).
If anyone wants a break from thinking about the Logos Now Membership and L7 upgrades, go to the thread I started on July 3. 2016: Concisely erudite expositional commentary vols. worth duplicating? and discuss there about commentaries!:Everett Headley said:FWIW: I think your thought process on the savings is slightly off. As all Bible scholars (should) be aware, "context is everything." The sentence before makes it clear... "IF people understood..." But they don't.

To those who have ears, let them hear. [:P]
Unless there is a real change of heart and philosophy, there will be no pre-announcement (or dual sales). If there is a package you have been "eyeing," I would purchase it sooner than later. I can't speak for FL, but I would bet that they would be extra gracious on the return policy for you if you are outside of the window.

But that statement is so vague? Can you at least hint on the month of L7 release?

They have said a number of times that they won't announce that. However, you can take Phil's comments one of two ways: Either FL will honor the return policy longer than typical OR it will be released within the current policy guidelines. Either way, hopefully JH has the info he (or she!) needs.

From what I remember it's been late October or early November The last 2 releases.

Unlikely as we are only on beta 4 ... I think that beta 5 has occurred on all of the development cycles.

There's a pretty good chance the launch will coincide with our six-week release cycle.

As I told JH, you can safely buy. We'll take care of you if you change your mind after 7 launches and you see what's included and what was pulled.

Wow if it is released on the 22nd, did I make a mistake by getting a package in late May?

Not at all. You're in a better spot now than I was before the release of L5. I discovered Logos (L5) 2 months after its release. Had I have known about Logos 2-3 months earlier, I would've gotten a big dynamic pricing.
Short ver: You're good. You'll get the sweet dynamic pricing.
