How to read multiple parts of one book without losing my place?

I am curious how to make what I would think of as a bookmark. I have tried googling but didn't find an easy solution. My issue is when I am, for example, wanting to read something from Jonathan Edwards. In volume 2 (the 2 volume edition) I want to read through Brainerd's journal. Now if the only time I opened this volume I understand I would be able to have it open to what it was closed on...

But I also have a study layout where verses cited in the same volume are listed and if I want to see what Jonathan Edwards said about say John 3:16 it will cause me to lose my place in Brainerd's journal.

Any suggestions?

I would use Favorites. For books with page numbers, it remembers the page number. You could also use Bookmarks.

I would open the same resource in multiple panes. Then save your layout as you quit each time.

This will keep your progress independently saved in each pane as you progress.

I use the layout pictured above in my computer at church for 'studying' and usually when I read it's in th evenings on my iPad away from my computer at church.

You are right those favorites sync. But it will get cluttered quickly. So while it works, it isn't the perfect solution. But you are right that works.

If Favorites are organized into folders, they will be seen on the iPad. I can locate all my resource links in any Favorites folder and use it to visit the resource.

If I am reading on the iPad, I can elect to place the current location into Favorites. However, it does not give me a choice of folders. Instead, the software deposits that bookmark into the "Mobile Favorites" folder. I can always drag and drop it later on the desktop if I want to rearrange.
