Cannot do more complex searches of the Mishnah

Can someone tell me if I am doing something wrong here? I get very poor results when I try to search the source The Mishnah (Jacob Neusner). If I search for a single word I get accurate results but if I try to use AND or OR to find things I get very weird results (for example: Gamaliel AND Passover - acts like an OR search but doesn't find all occurrences of either word). My indexing is complete and I have rebuilt my resource index once already.

Anyone else have this resource and can confirm this behavior?

I confirm the AND Search is returning invalid results. The results approximate OR values, but are incomplete. The OR Search however, seems to be more valid, but this I cannot confirm. The Bible Search for Jesus AND Passover yields valid results and proves that an AND Search should return results with the word values in excess of 20 words. I present the searches I performed to come to my conclusions below.

In a basic search, the AND operator looks for matches within the same article. The first hit (in the article Peah) contains both the words Gamaliel (multiple locations) and Passover (in Peah 7:6 .

If you want terms to be closer than the entire article, then you need to use the syntax like WITHIN 20 WORDS.

I concede. My search for the second term did not encompass the entire article I expected the second term to be closer in proximity than it was, thus my error. The Search is valid. My apologies.

Edit: This does raise one issue. It would be of significant benefit if the result would display instances of both Search values in the the Search field.

It seems that WITHIN XX WORDS is a better syntax to find what I was trying to do. In Pesahim 10:5 there is a discussion of what Gamaliel says re: Passover, bitter herbs, and unleavened bread. I was trying to figure out how to show someone how they could find that passage - but using the Standard AND syntax doesn't seem to word. I am used to using the AND syntax to narrow a search further. AND in this case expands the results. For example if I search for "bitter herbs" I find 9 occurrences. If I search "bitter herbs" AND Gamaliel I get 20. That was a counterintuitive result to me, but it must have to do with how the book is sectioned off.

The reason for the increased count is that the result counts each term separately. That is, the two terms "bitter herbs" and "Gamaliel" show up 20 times in situations where both are found in the same article.

If you want to know how many times they show up in the same article, then you want to look at the article count, and there you should see a decrease from the "bitter herbs" search to the "Gamaliel" search.

Replicated search for "bitter herbs" finding 9 results in 3 articles while search for "bitter herbs" AND Gamaliel had 22 results in 2 articles (reflecting more occurrences of Gamaliel found in the 2 articles)

Search "bitter herbs" WITHIN 33 WORDS Gamaliel has 2 results in 1 article.

Search "bitter herbs" WITHIN 55 WORDS Gamaliel has 3 results in 1 article; phrase "bitter herbs" was found twice WITHIN 55 WORDS of Gamaliel.
