Android 6: How to move Logos resources to SD without root

Today I received the Marshmallow update on my J7 and started researching for new ways whether it's possible to move Logos resources to extSD. This is what I found:

http://www.modaco.com/news/android/heres-how-to-configure-adoptable-storage-on-your-s7-s7-edge-r1632/

If I'm not mistaken, this method should work for all Android 6 devices, not only S7. It does not involve "rooting", and can therefore be, in case of failure, completely reversed.

I'll give an update after testing it out in the evening. The description looks very promising so far!

I've been using it for a while on my Samsung Galaxy S2 tab, works a treat.

I got it to work! My Logos library is on extSD, together with all other user data!!

In addition to the instructions from that blog, I called "sm set-force-adoptable true" in the shell, restarted the device a couple of times, derigestered and registered the SD card a couple of times, and then it was finally working.

A new "SD options" icon appeared - there I selected "export data", and it took about 15 minutes to shuffle all the data from internal memory to SD.

It is disappointing that this feature is not available in Bible-Logos without any complicated tweaking, especially when we consider the amount of resources an average Logos user has. Unlike Bible-Logos, PocketBible for Android has this feature and it is very easy to use. All I have to do is select in the Setting – Program Setting – Book Installation Location – Select Removal Storage and the storing of the resources in the Ext SD Card is done automatically. It is hassle free and works very well all my previous and present phones. The phones that I have installed PocketBible in (my wife’s phone included), and this feature worked like a charm are Samsung Galaxy Grand Quattro (Android OS, v4.1.2 Jelly Bean), Lenovo A880 (Android OS, v4.2.2 Jelly Bean), Samsung Galaxy A8 and Acer Iconia One 10 B3-A20 Tablet (Android 5.1 Lollipop). In fact, this feature works very well on my friend’s very low cost phone Huawei Y300-0100 (Android OS, v4.1 Jelly Bean)!!! No complicating tweaking necessary, just select the option in the setting. I think Logos need to incorporate this feature in their mobile apps so that everyone can enjoy this feature hassle free, including those who are not tech savvy.

As I've written elsewhere in response to your same post (and now for the benefit of other readers),

Actually, Verbum for Android already has this feature (although it's unsupported), and you don't have to do anything whatsoever to enable it. Instead, you have to be tech savvy to notice that it's there!

(It also works on Bible, and your phone does not need to be running Android 6.x.)

Yeah, Logos needs to get this right, after all the hundreds to thousands of dollars spent on building a library and upgrades, this is a must for Logos to make the capability of storing the resources library to the SD card on android machines.

I already know of longtime Logos users now moving to other applications.

The work around described by another user for formatting the SD card is not an option I am looking for doing. I expect Logos to get it right.  Also, I don't really intend to install a Catholic library into my Logos library so I can move my current books to the SD card (if this is poss).  I am not sure whether adding the Catholic application Verbum allows me to move my current books to the SD card?

Thanks Logos from another concerned Logos user (since version 2)

Some devices and Android versions support this while others don't. There is no difference between Verbum and any of our other reader apps in this respect. There is already a UserVoice suggestion for this at https://logosmobile.uservoice.com/forums/190765-logos-mobile-apps/suggestions/3933709-default-downloaded-resources-to-external-sd-card . Please vote.

When I access my Command Prompt and type 'adb shell,' I get a message that says, 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or command batch file. I am running Windows 10. What do I do???

There is a very easy way to force Logos app to show the option to store resources in SD Card.

    1) Activate Developers Option by going to Settings > About Device > Software Info > tap on Build Number until Developers Mode is turned on.

    2) Once step 1 is completed, go out to Settings. You'll see Developer Option now available.

    3) Go into Developer Option > Scroll to the end > Turn on "Force allow apps on external"

    4) Go out to Settings > Apps > Bible (Logos) > Storage > change to "External Storage" under Storage used.

    Done!
