Structual and Semantic Analysis of James -Example

I know some will take this as a suggestion, and yes it is- but I post it here for exposure.

Attached is an example of this series volume on James, it 3:1-12, it is the largest complete section I could do without going over copyright issues. I scanned it then converted it to docx format- by hand since I do not have a coversion program- copy and paste with all the correction and converting of format and language.

My hope is that those who see the great value of these resources will begin to request it.

First, I agree it'd be an excellent addition.

My other observations:

- Assuming decent margins, the price point would be about $4-500 for the set so far. That's a nice add-on price, after the more general commentaries are purchased.

- Semantic, discourse, etc is a growing area of the religious bookshelf; I'd assume future added tools in Logos, that this would be perfect.

- It looks like UBS Handbooks's big brother. I've wanted something bigger than UBS.

- My only negative (from the sample), it the certainty the author displays. It forces me to check everything he says.

All to say, Logos has already produced this series (although it is still labeled as 'unfinished resource'). I guess all they had to do is to get the license from SIL to sell it as a Logos resource?

So are you sayng that you have access to SAS Series with this license in Logos?

If so I have never ever been told that is true by every FL rep I have spoken to about this.

I would hope you practice that approach regardless of the product or its authors- they are only human.

If I read the requirements for the license correctly you need to be in ministry or a professional- not just a joe.

No, Whyndall, I don't practice that approach (smiling) ... I look to alternative interpretaions discussed, qualifiers (maybe, could be, likely) and footnotes. I'd hate to have to check all the humans.

What do you mean "eligible" for that deal. A church is a nongovernmental organization or just being a graduate student (vague description IMHO). There are a lot of ways to qualify and I don't think they verify anyone to check for eligibility. What I don't quite understand is if this is a membership program or you actually pay for the licenses one time to have access to them for life. If you get access to the 1k resources, I'll sign up right away!

There is a difference between the translators workplace and translators notes- big dollar difference- saw nothing to make me believe the notes are included in the workplace license.

A FL sales rep would never mention that this series exists as a Logos resource. FL only produced it for the Translator's Workplace (TW). They may not even know that it exists, it would not show up in their database. It is not for sale at this point.

I'm sad to hear this. I did not want to advertise the TW. This is not for everybody. This is several publishers working together with SIL and UBS to offer commentaries and other helps to Bible translators at almost no cost. This is to further the spread of the Word of God to all peoples and languages. If you are not involved in any translation project into an unreached language, and if you have nobody to prove that your translation project is real, you will not be allegeable to get a license.

So my point in mentioning that the SSA series has been produced as a Logos Resource is not to get people to sign up for TW. I mentioned it to further the cause of the one that started this thread, that is to see whether we can get FL to make it available to the standard Logos user. Since it is produced already, and since there seems to be general interest, it could be a small step to get a contract with SIL, maybe clean it up a little bit more, and offer it to the public.

I will not post a list of resources since I don't want to temp others into getting cheap access for something that wasn't designed for them in the first place.

I used to work for SIL as a system engineer long time ago, thus I would like to use this software in Logos just in case I could help occasionally the translators. I would be happy to pay for it.
