Those who bought in stages, how? Was it via the website or a phone call to FaithLife? I can't view any comparisons on the site and only seldom can see a package which seems to always default to Gold and I can't seem to get it off of Gold...

I updated my L6 Portfolio to L7 Portfolio. I will update to Collectors in a few months.

I did end up with Methodist Bronze. Mostly I gained a few different commentaries that diversify my collection quite a bit, also most of John Wesley's works.

L6 did good by me, so really the only thing I was looking for this time was the Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary. The packages containing that (Gold & higher) were beyond my reach, but after adding Methodist Bronze to my cart, the screen came up with that as an add-on with $70 off if purchased at the the same time as a library. So, I got the resource I really wanted plus a decent small library for the end price I wanted of under $300.

I mention this as I don't recall the add-on screen mentioned in this thread. To see it, just stick a package in your cart and you'll be presented with your options.

I'm having a hard time with these new L7 packages. Given my current library, the packages are very heavy on the public domain works without many modern commentaries or reference works that I'd find useful. Personally I'm likely going for just a few lower level denominational packages that have a few bargains from my Wish List. I'm going to resist buying simply based on package titles since the value just isn't there for me.

My thinking, too. I am not likely to buy anything very large, and maybe nothing at all.

I agree, having accumulated a lot over the years. I'm looking at buying L7 Gold because it includes three resources I would like to have: Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary, The New Daily Study Bible, and The Bible Speaks Today NT commentaries.

I'm wavering on whether to purchase the Full Feature Sets or join Logos Now. I'm leaning toward the former.

I felt the same about several packages — I'd had all the real goodies previously. I'm also not interested in the Classics of Western Spirituality series that lots of people have got excited about. Nonetheless, I still found I spend twice as much on L7 libraries as I initially did on L6 base packages (although I much later purchased several other L6 base packages).

The upside for me is that my wife is happy that I won't be spending as much this release. [:)]

I subscribe to LN, but I am also considering purchasing the Full Feature Set. My thinking is that when my library is gifted/inherited, I don't want that person to have to sign up for a SaS program or have to pay for the roll up of the features. Maybe a minor point, but it wouldn't seem right to me to gift something that requires that individual to incur that expense.

I also ended up spending more on L6 packages than I initially anticipated, but mostly due to my seminary needs. With the L7 packages I don't find anything (at present at least) that meets a similar compelling need or significant hole in my library. I've been waffling between being pleased that this must mean that I have been blessed with an expansive library and sad that I don't get to feed the resource beast this time around. [:D]

Hmmm now I'm torn on what package I should get. Any suggestions? I just got L6 Diamond back in late May

Keith, it's difficult to recommend a package to someone since everyone's needs are different. We have pastors, seminary students, lay leaders, small group leaders, and "just" dedicated Christians who approach Logos with different goals in mind.

When I started out with Logos ten years ago, I purchased L3 Gold, Word Biblical Commentary, the Essential IVP Reference Collection, and BDAG. Aside from a few minor purchases and engine upgrades, I didn't feel the need to make any further substantial investment until 2012 when I started seminary part-time. Although I've invested a small fortune since then, I've always tried to make sure that I don't spend more than as prompted by the Holy Spirit. I've come to realize that upgrading for the sake of upgrading does not honor my Lord or my faith, so I spend a great deal of time contemplating the purpose for which I choose a specific package or resource. With five children and another due in three weeks, I have other responsibilities that will always come before Logos upgrades. [:D]

Are you feeling a pressing need in your life or ministry that necessitates a further substantial investment? If so, determine what those needs are and purchase wisely. I see that you've expressed an interest in Standard Portfolio; it is a very nice package and to be perfectly candid it was the one L7 package I was most looking at before I decided that I was going to essentially "sit this one out".

What I recommend doing is reviewing lists of "essential" biblical libraries to get an understanding of what constitutes a well rounded list of resources. I'm not sure of your specific denominational preference, but I've found the following helpful:

    1.    Denver Seminary (Conservative Baptist)

    2.    Master's Seminary

    3.    Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary

    4.    Books (Paperback, in Logos or Kindle)

    a.   John Glynn's Commentary and Reference Survey-the preliminary discussion of essential libraries is still very helpful (after Glynn's untimely death, the rumor was that DTS was going to pick up the updating of this, but nothing has come of it so far. It is still quite helpful, if not slightly outdated)-

    b.   John Evan's survey (originally published by Covenant Theological Seminary (Lutheran) in St. Louis, but it is now being published by Zondervan)-

    c.    D.A. Carson's NT commentary survey-

    d.   Tremper Longman's OT commentary survey-

Thanks Erik! I appreciate your reply, I understand each person does have different needs. Very good point. I'll check out these resources. I just feel more inclined to upgrade since they are offering a special discount to thhose who have bought L6 recently.

The discounts are in place I believe until Sept. 30 at least (Mods or MVPs correct me if I'm wrong), so you have some time to make a reasoned decision. Are you in seminary or planning on attending?

Ok that is definitely something to consider about the date. I am in seminary, also working with the youth and college groups. So I use Logos for academic research/writing, sermon/bible studies preparation, and devotionals. So I do use Logos everyday.

Great point! I will never subscribe to LN.

I went ahead and purchased the Full Feature Set and L7 Standard Platinum. My dynamic pricing (along with academic and misc. discounts) was way too good to pass up - under $650. I would have paid that price for Hermeneia alone!

I bought the Standard Portfolio in order to pick up some additional commentary sets and Barth's Dogmatics.

I'm not a Logos Now subscriber, and just purchased Reformed Portfolio and the Full Feature Set. I was particularly interested in adding the following resources to my library:

Hermeneia, ICC, Jonathan Edwards works, ISBE, a couple of volumes of EEC I didn't have, the Bible Knowledge Background Commentary and Preaching the Psalms Mobile Ed course - and a few other goodies as well.

Very cool! I was leaning towards getting standard Portfolio too, or maybe L7 Platinum, or Diamond. Hmmm I really don't know [:S]

It's my understanding that by default, the full/entire L7 Feature set is included with the purchase of any of the bronze (or higher) packages, but would like to confirm.  Is that correct?

I got Reformed Diamond so that I could pick up all the benefits of the package, but really just for Jonathan Edwards.

I have yet to buy anything, though I have a pretty good idea of what I want. I received one of those special discount emails and I tried calling about it, twice, but had to hang up both times after I was on hold for more than 5 minutes. I then contacted one of the sales reps via email; I got an auto-reply which essentially said, "we're very busy, sit tight, we'll get to you" (my interpretation [:P]). I don't plan to call again; at international rates, I don't think the discount will be worthwhile after I get my phone bill!

If I don't hear from the sales rep by Friday, I may attempt another rep or I'll probably just move on and do my own thing on the site.

I'm struggling with what to buy. The Standard Gold is reasonably affordable for me, and has a couple of things that I'd really like to have.  I'm especially interested in the Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture, the Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary, and the Liddell and Scott Greek–English Lexicon. It would be nice to have the Tyndale Commentaries too.

Going up to Platinum picks up Hermeneia.  The difference in cost is a big discount over the list price of that set, but it's still a good chunk of change. Hermeneia has a great reputation, but still.  Platinum also adds some Septuagint resources, but I'm not sure my Greek skills are good enough to get full value out of them. Those look to me as the most significant things I'd gain going from Gold to Platinum; the rest seems to be miscellaneous bits and pieces. I have the sense that I'll regret it if I don't, but explaining to my spouse why I have to spend the extra money doesn't have much appeal.

Is Hermeneia worth having that conversation?

    (Addendum)

Oh, and it also has the The Dictionary of Classical Hebrew - I'd forgotten that. That's tempting, but I somehow doubt my Hebrew skills would allow me to get full value out of it.

Hermenia is worth the value only if you're doing your M.Div or Th.M...

But if you have the money, go ahead.

I went from L6 Platinum standard to L7 Gold and then upgraded all the other denominational bp's to Bronze; except for Lutheran, SDA and Verbum as I didn't see any value to me in the content. L7 Platinum is good, but I'm not sure about Hermeneia yet. Too technical for sermon prep. I do like the fact that I got standar Gold cheap and it included the AYBD which was about the same price I spent upgrading to Gold L7. We'll see, L7 Platinum is now $364 but L7 Baptist Platinum includes McArthur and Pratt sermons for $400 both are great except for Hermeneia that is kind of holding me back.

But if I understand correctly, this isn't true if you're a Logos Now member. The feature set won't be added the cart, but if you want it, you can go find it and add it separately.

Yes, that's pretty much what I did this morning when I bought the FFS of L7. I wanted to own them and still have the members' benefits of LN
