Just curious - after you purchase and download a new Resource - is it necessary to rebuild the index?
-Mike
Nope. Logos builds a supplemental index to store the new info. When the supplemental index reaches 25% of the size of the main index, L4 merges the indices.
Thanks Michael - so when you download a new resource and do a Search - how does the information pertinent to the new resource end up being searchable along with all of the previously indexed resources?
So - I should never have to worry about initiating a reindex - it all happens behind the scenes?
Pretty cool if that's what happens.
Thanks
That is the planned behavior, but with Alpha software sometimes unplanned actions become necessary.
The indexer runs every time you restart the app and tries to determine if any new resources have been added. If so, it will index them. It will either add them to a new supplemental index and the results will show up in a "New Resources" section under search, or it will merge the main and supplemental indexes and you'll just see relevant results in the Library Results in search.
Pretty much. Prior to A15 there were some index merging issues that could cause a corrupted index which might cause the app to crash. The appear to have been fixed in the upcoming A15 release, so barring some bug, you generally won't have to do anything. Occasionally where someone has been bitten by an index merging bug they will have to run "Rebuild index" or "Rebuild Bible index" from the command bar.
the results will show up in a "New Resources" section under search
So that's where the New Resources section comes from in my searches. I wondered about that; now I know. [:)]
