Upgrading to Logos 7 full feature set vs Logos Now/Membership

So I looked at my options and have questions.

I could upgrade to Bronze which gets me more books plus full features and datasets (is that correct?)

I could just upgrade to Logos 7 full feature set. Does this include all the datasets too?

I could simply sign up for Logos Now. Does that include full feature set and new datasets?

I ask because the upgrade to Logos 7 full feature set with my existing library ends up being about $50 (for me) more than if I did two years of Logos Now. Of course the difference in cost is more comparing Logos Now vs upgrading to Bronze but that makes sense because with the Bronze I get a little more than 90+ additional resources. Most of those resources are language specific things that I would not use.

In short, if I do not plan to add more resources (books) when I go to Logos 7 it seems to make more sense and be cheaper for me to go Logos Now vs the Logos 7 Full feature upgrade.

Am I missing something?

That sounds right to me.

I think much of it depends on what type of customer you are. With Logos seeming to be on a 2 year cycle with regards to new releases, if you are the type to want the new features of every iteration of the software, you're probably going to save money by using the Now membership. Not only that, but you'll get the features as they become available rather than in one chunk every two years.

The main drawback is if you imagine a time in the future where you will not want the latest features but will also still want to use the features of the current version of Logos (thus requiring that you buy the feature set at that time for an additional cost). Only then would you be saving money by buying the feature set now.

4. Probably not. Obviously, in two years if you stop paying Faithlife any money, you would keep the features if you had bought them and lose them if you had them only through Logos Now.

The other subscription option that also includes resources is Logos Cloud => https://logoscloud.com and Verbum Cloud => https://verbumcloud.com so can "rent" a larger library with features.

Thanks for the responses. You both brought up a point I did not consider. That being that if I jump onto Logos Now I am go to go but if for some reason I stop logos now (job loss, unforeseen expenses requiring cutbacks, etc) I would look my features and I assume revert back to my original Logos 6.

Otherwise I would remain on latest and greatest system with all my resources loaded locally etc.

Lastly, if I am on logos now, can I use it when not connected to the internet? I assume so, that it would work like my logos 6 does now where my resources are loaded locally. Of course some things like atlas would not function.

Yes, you can

I assume revert back to my original Logos 6.

You lose the functions supported by datasets you do not own and the Now only benefits but you remain on the Logos 7 engine.

I liken what is happening in Logos development/sales to what is happening at my local movie theater:

Lots of choices, not much worth viewing or purchasing.

I keep imagining a former Pastor friend of mine wisely saying:

"Joshua, just read your Bible"

The only downside I can see is if I need to stop my Logos Now at some point my feature set and capabilities revert back to my current Logos 6 or I guess Logos 7 core. Then I can later start it again or upgrade to whatever the current version is.

Seems like a no brainer. Anyone have experience with Logos Now, good or bad. Anyone quit it and then have to upgrade?

Stephen, I find myself in a similar situation, except I would spend a little more on two years of Logos Now than buying the full feature set in combo with a relatively small library that I want to add.

I almost went with the combo of library plus full feature set because of the "what ifs" that you laid out but finally was persuaded to go with Now. A primary reason for doing so is one that I haven't seen raised: Every two years, with a major upgrade, I find myself trying to comprehend all the new data/feature sets, like trying to drink from the proverbial fire hydrant. With Now, you get the new features along and along, and there should be less "new feature overload" to grasp at once.

There are other reasons for Now, but that one is what pushed me into Now.

Why do I want to stay current with Logos? As a pastor, I find it the best Bible study software available. Not only do I want to understand the Bible as well as possible, I also want to communicate it as well as possible to those entrusted to my spiritual care. Logos helps me do that.
