Pre Pub Payment

I have just had a nasty shock as my pre pubs start to come to contract. I was always curious how you put on a payment plan and of course with a bit of searching I found you can't. It was ever thus I suppose, those with most money get the cheapest price! I do gather though that logos need full production costs up front.

I have now deleted nearly 1k USD of pre pubs.

My questions really are on those gathering interest does it go back a notch?

Those under contract if a lot of people delete late on, especially on larger cost ones, doesn't it cause them problems?

If someone wants a product badly do they sign up for pre pub knowing they can delete the order once it is under contract/in production?

I have - I periodically go through my pre-pubs and weigh the importance of the item with my current budget. That does not mean I purchase everything, but when a see too much coming out at one time, I know that I have to delete some of those I did order. Some months my budget will allow $300 of purchases. Other months my budget only allows a fraction of that .

I have no control of when Logos will release pre-pubs, Logos has no control over my budget from month to month.

I suspect more than you and I have been known to sign up for prepub's only to delete them at the last moment. Currently I am only signing up for community pricing, since that's all my budget can sustain at the moment.

At one point, probably in the newsgroups I was told that Logos plans on a certain bit of overage in order to absorb a few people dropping the product.

I had to cancel once last year, but unfortunately did three in a row this month (boo hoo . . . [:'(] . . . they were ones I really wanted). I don't like to do that, but I never know when they will go into publication and financially, things are very tenuous right now.

I would argue for a payment plan on pre-pubs, at least larger purchase, but Logos seems to see it differently. I know they have their reasons, even if those reasons are a bit beyond me. (no sarcasm or condescension meant)

I don't delete with joy, I never feel good about it, for myself OR for Logos.

It's always seemed to me that the more expensive the pre-pub, the more likely it will bill my account in the last couple days of the pay period. Much as I hate credit, I had to re-point my pre-pub payments to an old credit card so I could absorb the surprise inherent in when the pre-pubs bill without shocking my family checking account.

I appreciate the pre-pub program, but agree with others that having more feedback from Logos on when each might go live and having access to a payment plan line would be nice. That said, I've also loaded myself up with Logos payment plans [:(] -- I wouldn't mind too much if their pre-pub crew took a siesta so I can get done swallowing Logos4 & a couple other big-dollar purchases from the end of last year. It's a toss-up whether my tax refund goes to a new fence or books ... perhaps we need a "15 Taxing Days" Logos sale [:D]

April 5 will be a bit of a challenge for me with income tax coming right on its heels.

I can certainly understand Logos' position in needing production costs up front.

However, this does reduce the large items that I can purchase. (The fact that I could not put it on the payment plan caused me not to order the NIC in pre-pub. Same for ICC.)

Just have watch those release dates closely so that I don't let too much come due at once.

you wonder if they wouldn't wait to release Z after tax day . . . give some time for the (normal) late filers to get a return, or at least know what they are getting back. . . .
