Thanks for posting.
His commentary on Isaiah was my favorite among his works. Love how the lives of authors like him continue to influence us after their death.
That is sad - I've appreciated his work on Isaiah. Thanks for letting us know...
Alec Motyer was one of the most wonderful, heart-warming Bible teachers I've heard. He was also an incredibly gifted Hebrew scholar. I remember sitting beside him at a Conference in Northern Ireland chatting when I had just finished the first year of my ministerial training. In those days we did Greek in first year and Hebrew in second. He asked me if I had started Hebrew yet, and when I said I would be starting in September, he looked round at me, put his hand on my shoulder, and said, 'Beloved, give it all your heart!' On another occasion I was at a conference for younger Ministers in England at which he was one of the speakers. Unusually for many conference speakers, he also attended the talks by the other speakers. At one of them, I remember sitting beside him and looking in wonder as he took down, from memory, the Hebrew of the Old Testament quotations from Isaiah the speaker was referring to in English.
One of my favourite sermons of his was on Elijah being taken up into heaven. Another is of him preaching on John 14 and suggesting that Jesus' words 'I will come again and take you to myself' may well imply a kind of mini-2nd coming every time a believer dies, as the Saviour personally escorts them to heaven.
