For all users - in case you ever go into your services and disable the BITS service (like I do), you will not be able to receive Beta 2 whenever it comes out. To ensure this service is running follow these steps:
- Right Click on My Computer (in start or wherever) and click Manage
- Click on Services and Applications on the left-hand navigation side, and click on Services
- View the right-hand window and find the service titled Background Intelligence Transfer Service (BITS)
- Double check that it is not 'Disabled', any other state is OK (automatic, or manual)
- If it is disabled, please right-click on the service --> properties and enable it by setting start-up type option to manual (or automatic if you don't mind it running in the background)
Happy testing

George,
How do we get the download? Does Logos 4 need to be open?

The download will magically appear one day as you are using Logos4 [:)]

BITS is enabled to start in the background by default on my system.
Question: I have my system scheduled to reboot every day (through Task Scheduler) at 3:30am. Will that be a problem, or will BITS be able to handle this? NOTE: From the Options>Actions: Action: Start a Program | Details: shutdown.exe /r/f

No it shouldn't be a problem, but it does serve as a great test case in case the release comes out at night. Please keep us posted on this and if you do experience a crash when coming back to your computer, if it updates at night, please post a thread in the Post-Crashes sub-forum ( http://community.logos.com/forums/70.aspx ), thanks.

Will do. I wouldn't expect a system crash. I might expect a corrupted download.
Either way, I'll let you know.
BTW, I'm in the same time zone as you guys (I live in Alger, just down the road from B'ham). So whatever time you release it, I should get it -- or at least start the BITS process.

The update did not start until I started L4 this morning. I wasn't sure how the update might be 'pushed' but apparently we only get it when L4 is started. I may want to set up a Task Scheduler that starts L4 each morning a couple of hours before I get to the computer (say 4 am), that way updates will be installed and reindexing closer to finishing before I need to go to work.

Yea Logos4 will do a check for updates once every 24 hours, however to install updates you have to right-click on the indexer and choose install updates, seems like a good setting control for the (already requested) update management system in the future, thanks!

Just by pure luck, I had I-Tunes/Quicktime request an update today as well. It had an estimate of the size for the update as well as a few boxes to click. For example, since I don't have the I-phone, I didn't have to take the I phone update. In my opinion, the production version should give us similar knowledge before upgrades.

Yes I agree, in fact I requested a feature to have an update management system, let's hope we can squeeze it in before the release.

Hi George,
Beta 2 is the same problem as Beta 1. My OS cannot run this one either.
