Notes / Clippings performance impact

Dear all,

I found myself making more notes and clippings for the last year and half than ever before. I tried to search the forums to find how a larger number of notes / clippings could impact Logos performance, but I could´t find any post.

I´m aware that larger file notes can affect the scrolling speed of a resource, so I swapped to resource especific note files. My question, however, is if thousands of different notes / clippings can impact Logos performace, apart of Logos loading times. Could you share how many notes / clippngs you have and if the Logos performance is impacted?

I´m also reading a lot in my Android tablet and I would like to know if performance can also be impacted in such case.

I am not sure performance issues would result from having a large number of files. As you said, very large note files can have a negative impact. I tend to periodically clean up my notes, sentence diagrams, clippings files, etc. So I never really have what I would consider a large number. I liken it to the way one might go through old legal pads or notebooks and purge notes, articles, etc, that were made for a specific prior sermon or study.

I have Apple devices, such as a MacBook Pro with 1 TB hard drive and 16 gigs of RAM, an iMac with a 3 TB drive and 32 gigs of RAM on and I 7 machine, as well as an iPad with 256 gigs of memory. I have hundreds upon hundreds of note files and have never had any issues at all accessing or reading those on my desktop, laptop, or tablets.

You are correct, however, in that it does begin to affect the scrolling of a particular note document once you have a good bit of notes attached to that particular document. So Resource specific documents are best, even though that creates the scenario whereby you have many more notes.

I have prayed for a long time that logos would overhaul the nores functionality, but it keeps getting overlooked. I really wish that it could handle more data and attachments before it started getting sluggish in scrolling in a particular note. I also wish that we could move notes and highlighting from one document to another more easily. It's a very sluggish and tedious process right now
