Temporarily disabling Logos Now

I would like to be able to temporarily disable the features of Logos Now from time to time. When I turn off Logos Now, I would want the extra menu options to disappear, so it looks like plain Logos 7. I am preparing to teach a seminary course in which I cannot assume people have Logos Now features, so I don't want to confuse things by having options that they do not have.

Is there any way to do this?

It would alternatively be fine is there were some type of indication that a feature or resource is part of Logos Now.

Could you elaborate on the scenario in which you would want your library limited, and what exactly you mean by that?

I agree. Also, doing searches on just whatever is just in Starter, Bronze, Silver etc. I bet someone has already done this. I realize that each set is different each time they come out with a different Logos 5,6,7, and some books are no longer available.

I don't presume to answer for MJ but for me I know some people for whom if I showed them my whole library and all the features I own would be putt off the software saying it's far more than they ever need, but if I could show them what books and features they would get with just a starter library it would be much less daunting to them - the sort of people who sit in your weekly bible study at church, who have no interest in learning Greek or Hebrew but like to dig into the scriptures.

It wouldn't address the feature aspect of doc's point but using Collections could constrain what was shown in the Library and in searches.

The "Logos Prduct Collections" Faithlife Group has these collections defined for Logos 6 packages. I don't know if Logos 7 ones are planned to be added

doc is exactly right. In a parish setting, I would like to be able to show results with little more than the basic package developed for the parish. I can make a collection for Library, Search, the Collection & Commentary sections of the Guides, ... but elsewhere the size of my library makes the results confusing not helpful.

I have asked for this before, as well. It is certainly of for training people to use Logos for Bible study, which I do in seminary. I also want to teach people to use Logos in Bible study at church, but I want to keep it simple.

It would be great to have a simplified context menu for beginners. A context menu cluttered with more than 20 tags and 7 search options is overwhelming to beginners. The Tools menu is bloated. Too many options are overwhelming when you are learning any program. Microsoft Word has the option to only show the most widely used menu choices for this reason.

A Program Settings option to limit the resources and features to a collection based on a Base Package could simplify the menus as well as the resource list. For opening the books in the library, I can use a collection, but I would want the menus to be simplified too.

To some extent but Logos generally already does not display options for which you do not have the required resources - so this is more a license management issue than what JoshinRI envisions.

I've considered that and would run a second account if I were a parish staffer with a regular teaching schedule ... but the resources that I would require are not free. It would be a duplicate investment.

And where would you be if that happened? Do you also own Logos 6 Gold (all L6 features) or lower? Or do you want only the Logos 7 (and newer) features of Logos Now to be disabled, so that you retain all Logos 6 features of Now? What is your expectation of the students' versions of Logos? You might end up being embarrassed by their features, especially if they are on Logos Now!

If you'd like to demonstrate the Concordance tool, that won't be possible (but the students might have it).

If your library is superior, it's relatively easy to restrict certain resources from appearing in search results, but they could appear in resource drop-down lists and tools/guides e.g. Factbook, Cited by, Topic Guide.

I integrate Logos into a wide variety of my seminary courses, including Greek, Hermeneutics, New Testament introduction, and Computer Tools for Biblical Research. Students are expected to have Platinum standard.

I need to design the course training, handouts, in-class exercises, homework assignments and training videos (for online courses) to fit the features and resources students are expected to have. In particular, they ought to be able to do the in-class exercises and homework assignments with Logos 6 or 7 without Logos Now. I might tantalize them with a few features from Logos Now, but I want to know that a particular feature is a Now feature.

As far as what I own, I have had every version of Logos since 1.6. Recent base packages include Platinum for each of versions 4, 5, 6 and 7. I don't mind if I have things they don't have (or vice versa)

Harry, Please let Bob know the need ... and encourage your teaching friends to do likewise. Bob really does give in when he sees the need and turning off Now shouldn't be difficult programmatically.

Would installing logos on another computer, creating a collection of the resources you want and hiding all the books and resources you don't want do the trick?

(Kinda shooting in the dark on this one) I'd love to hear a best solution, as I've been starting to show logos to some of our congregation and volunteers that have shown interest in deeper bible study. And it can get overwhelming for some of them.

oops! I see this is also abot the features, not just the library. Well, that's a mystery to me. Can datasets be hidden? (Away from my laptop now, I can't heck for myself)

But the effect can differ and may not be what was intended by the user e.g. losing all Logos 6 features.
