A Greek search question

If I use a "Bible Search" for ελπις selecting "All Passages" in NA27 I get 10 results in 9 verses.

However, if I do a Bible Word Study for the English word "hope" it reports 47 occurrences of the word ελπις in the Greek New Testament.

I would have expected these two searches to result in the same answer.

Can anyone please show what I am doing wrong?

You need to do a morph search like: lemma:ἐλπίς. Just searching ἐλπίς only catches when it is spelled that way, so you are only catching the Nominative singular occurrences of ἐλπίς. To get this type g:elpis in the search box and pick the lemma from the drop-down list. Lemmas have brief glosses to their right.
