CPU Usage and chip speeds etc

It was mentioned on Sept 5th that the CPU can "max-out" during indexing etc - mine also is consistently staying at 100% (but at least the numbers of resources to index are diminishing).

For those of you who reported this -- did your computer speed (NOTE: NOT search speed) improve after all of the indexing - compacting etc was done?

Right now, trying to "click-around" , look at features etc has about an 8 sec "drag" effect.

When we leap to V.3 my very old Pentium 2 just was not able to keep up so I had a new motherboard installed and moved up to P4 (they only had one core back then).

I need to know if I am also looking at having to upgrade again, this time to dual/quad cores etc, because (during indexing at least) the whole program is glacially slow on my (now again) older machine.

Thanks

Performance did improve for me after indexing completed, but I suspect that with a P4 you will continue to have performance issues. Although no official recommended/minimum specs have been released, Bob did comment in another thread about targets: "Our goal is to have great performance on machines two years old and newer, and acceptable performance on machines up to five years old."

    Thank you Chris:

The speed issue is a challenge because one does not yet know if the software is just being "beta" or if my machine is too slow or...etc.

But the "2 year time frame" leads me to assume that the "speedy" things referred to earlier,  pre-beta, probably will not include the software's every day feature of  "dragging-and-dropping" on this machine.
