Hi all,

was wondering if you could help out a newbie how to do a search, I'm sure that I have seen this being done but cant find the link now that I need it!

I want to search the scriptures for all the occasions that David Cries and I don't know what search criteria to put in so that the occurrences are not missed when David as a person is not found in close context.

Thanks for your help,

Yours in Christ, Robert

You can use the <Person David> search modifier to isolate to any Davidic activity.  After that you can add the verb roots cry OR weep.  Make sure that you click the magnifying glass and ensure that "Match all word forms" is check marked.

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

I tried this but still missing references

    <Person David> <Sense crying>

    then tried

    <Person ~ David>) AND <Sense to cry (tears)>

    this was helpful, thank you.

But if there is a better way please explain.

You should use a Clause Search for this. However, there are many meanings for the word 'cry', so you'll need to ensure you have the right one (the autocomplete feature will suggest alternatives as you type sense:cry — however, I've used the word 'weep' here, which I'm guessing is what you wanted.

    subject:david AND sense:to weep

    Thanks, helpful again.

What I am trying to do is see if there is an account in David's life that could shed some light in putting Psalm 6:6 into a context, I know that I can read commentaries, but I was wondering if there was a way that I could gain some insights quickly via a search. Have come away with some helpful results that will need further thought, but still haven't mastered Logos (LOL)

thanks for all of the suggestions will continue to play around.

Another Logos 7 search idea is sense WITHIN; right click on Psalms 6:6 shows Davidic Psalmist speaker:

    (<Sense crying> OR <Sense = tear> OR <Sense to cry (tears)>) WITHIN (<Person David> OR {Speaker <Person Psalmist (Davidic)>})

    Keep Smiling [:)]

Noticed 1 Samuel 20:41 was not included so modified search:

    (<Sense crying> OR <Sense = tear> OR <Sense to cry (tears)>) WITHIN 7 WORDS (<Person David> OR {Speaker <Person Psalmist (Davidic)>})

    Keep Smiling [:)]
