I came across this little paragraph today...

It is not a matter of a surface-level ‘imitation’, with people simply attempting to copy Jesus and so make themselves better people. It is a matter of the ‘mind of the Messiah’ which they already possess (see below), and of them allowing this shared and transformed ‘mind’ to work out into actual patterns of thought and then behaviour (as in 2:1–4).²⁵⁴ The outward signs of this can be seen in the various places where Paul seems to be echoing actual sayings of Jesus.²⁵⁵

Do you mean agrapha? If so I'd like to see it cover all agrapha not just those in Paul which would simply be one facet. OR do you mean the equivalent of the NT use of the OT except as NT use of the Gospels? Both interactives could be useful.

Hi Martha

Once I had looked up the meaning of 'agrapha' I found myself thinking 'why not?'. It actually might be a make classification easier and avoid the pitfalls having to attribute authorship.

The interactive as far as the New Testament goes could simply allow for 'Saying of Jesus' with in a reference range e.g. Acts-Rev or any subset thereof. Other material could be selected or concatenated as required and appropriate.

APPENDIX A

OLD TESTAMENT ALLUSIONS IN REVELATION

We observed in the chapter on John’s sources that he nowhere formally quotes an Old Testament passage. Instead, he uses allusions. Scholars have identified a large number of them. I have drawn upon their work to compile a list of these allusions, included here for your benefit.1
To help you make full use of this extensive list of allusions, I offer three suggestions. First, when you identify an Old Testament allusion, you need to look at the context surrounding that allusion. For example, Revelation 2:10 alludes to Daniel 1:12. The story that surrounds Daniel 1:12 is the testing of Daniel and his Jewish brothers. They ask to be tested for ten days. John uses the “ten days” as a symbol for the period of testing of the Christians in Smyrna.2 Daniel and the others were tested and refused to compromise their faith. On the other hand, the Christians in Smyrna will be tested because of their refusal to compromise. The “ten days,” therefore, becomes a symbol for the testing of God’s people. Second, you need to study the symbols in the Old Testament allusions because they will give clues to interpreting similar symbols in Revelation. Third, you need to consult good commentaries that discuss the Old Testament allusions.

You will see at various points in the allusions listed below two standard conventions often used by scholars. First, you may see a number in parenthesis. English Bibles will sometimes have a slightly different chapter or verse division when compared to the Hebrew text. For example, Psalm 89 in the English is Psalm 88 in the Hebrew text. In the list below I show the Hebrew reference in parentheses after the English reference. For example, this is used in the Revelation 1:5 citation of Ps. 89 (88). Second, “LXX” is a symbol for the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Hebrew and Aramaic Old Testament.

Thanks for chipping in however I think you may have misread the the original post.

There have been exciting developments in the New Testament use of the Old Testament Interactive which will be really helpful.

The discussion here though is about the New Testament (and probably some subsequent literature) use of the Sayings (Teaching) of Jesus himself.
