How to get same verse from All Bibles?

I used the command field to open Acts 3:21, but wanted to compare the verses in all bibles.  So, I brought up the search window and told it to search for acts 3:21 in all Bibles.  It found nothing!

What did I do wrong?  How to I get it to display the same verse in all Bibles?

Search will find text within the Bible, but not the reference itself. If someone knows how to search a reference within Search, perhaps they will chime in.

However, I took a look and found a way to do what you want without much difficulty:

(1) Open Acts 3:21 in any version of the Bible.

(2) Right click on any word within Acts 3:21.

(3) In the context menu, click on "Acts 3:21" in the right-hand column.

(4) In the left hand column, click on "Power Lookup." This will show that verse in every version in your Bible, as well as other resources such as commentaries.

TIP: Power Lookup will reflect the prioritization of your resources. If you want to use it for comparing Bible translations first, then you will want all your English translations to be prioritized first in your prioritization list.

Another option is to use Text Comparison. If you are only comparing a few translations, the Horizontal Layout will work fine, but if you are going to compare every translation in your library, you'll want to use Vertical Layout.

Follow these steps:

(1) Click on Tools > Text Comparison.

(2) Add all the versions you want to see in the second box (first box is for the reference), separate each version with a comma (,). Example: KJV, NKJV, ESV, NASB95, NRSV . . .

(3) To change the layout to vertical, click the big square box with two arrows in it to the left of the reference box and select "Vertical Layout."

Now, with this open, you can type in any reference (or reference range) to get a comparison with all the versions you included. You can also use "Link Set" to have it update while reading the Bible.

Welcome to the forums.

Somebody will no doubt come along with a definitive answer...

However to compare the text in a selection of Bibles you can use 'Text Comparison' (from the Tools menu).

I am not sure just how many bibles you can line up. You can add to the ones shown by adding to the list in the window next to the verse reference.

The Logos developers have been to busy with esoteric language facilities to bother with the interface on this panel so you will have to play with inputting the bibles - you can add bibles that you can't see in the list.

I hope this is of some help. I think most folk either want to know how the text is translated in a selection of modern bibles or a set of bibles of the same vintage whose use of language may be different to that which is current. There are some really obscure bibles in the Logos library some of which are simply historical novelties. Do you think that the translator of the Treacle Bible got it right?

Yet another thing you can do is with Acts 3:21 open and selected, press F7 (or FN+F7) on your keyboard and it will provide you with a pop-up comparison of your top five prioritized Bibles.

I think your question has been answered, if not let us know! I did want to tackle just this part. When you do a search, you are asking Logos to find an exact match for your search term in the surface text. In a typical bible, you aren't going to find "Acts 3:21" written anywhere, unless you have it in a footnote. Does that make sense? 

As has been said, if you want to compare translations, you need to use the "Text Comparison" tool.

Mike, Mike, Mike .... there are only some slightly obscure bibles in Logos ... not historical novelties. If you want really obscure you need to search:

Searching for Acts 3:21 defaults to finding references to that verse. In contrast, milestone search can find Acts 3:21 location in Bibles (and any resource with Bible index)

Richard you have been well directed in the right direction with the suggestion of the use of the Text Comparison Tool. But rather than manually add each translation to the report. You can create a collection of all english bibles and then use this collection with the Text Comparison Tool to easily answer your original question. For the steps please see the below blog post. Although it was written for Logos 5 the same basic steps apply.

I am assuming you want to compare several verses in all translations. Under Documents, select "Passage List" and type your passages below. Then, list the Bibles you want at the top. It's convenient, because in Passage List, you can drag to rearrange, add headings to subdivide and delete irrelevant ones. 

To do all English Bibles, we have two steps. First, make a collection of English Bibles, then do the passage list with those. The collection will work with the other methods mentioned, too.

I found this thread very helpful. 

I recently used Milestone in my search to list Psalm 2:7 and the 3 NT quotations of it in Heb 1:5; 5:5, and Acts 13:33 by using this as my search query:

   {Milestone <Ps 2:7>} OR {Milestone <Heb 1:5>} OR {Milestone <Heb 5:5>} OR {Milestone <Acts 13:33>}

It works searching all passages in a single Bible, all Bibles, top Bibles, or any collection of Bibles you like.  

I have a collection of “English Bibles” that I use a lot:

    (TYPE:BIBLE AND LANG:english ANDNOT (WUESTNT, GNT,BHT,ExpGT4))

This search works as a “Bible Search” or as a “Basic Search” but I think the Bible Search shows cleaner results.

The search results listed all four verses together under each Bible.
