Logos 7 Concordance

Using the new Logos 7 feature I tried to track down all the references to the Church in the Prison Epistles with the KJV as the bible of choice. I thought the new feature would work well since it ought to pick up synonyms such as "body" or "building" instead what it does is provide loads of references to matters outside the range of enquiry. It is not useful to get a list of all references to Christians in the epistles since involves a reference to virtually every verse - hence if I search under biblical entity for church wishing the range I get references to "us" "you" and some strange ones such as "fulfilling" , "making" :we should walk". Something wrong here. Surely the search should be concussed on the entity. Alan Summers

I'm not sure what entries you are looking at but "church" will just find matching words:

Browsing for the "sense" gives more options - but they are valid

What are you seeing?

Noticed <Person ***> tagging answers the question of "Who ?" so many verses and phrases are found.

Being able to refine Biblical Entry in Concordance by grammatical (or semantic) usage would be helpful.

For example, <Person Church at Ephesus> has 188 entries.

Morph Search can find the Person nouns for desired subset of: church, body, building, ...

<Person A Church> WITHIN 0 WORDS @N

Caveat: reverse interlinear alignment can have false positive result: e.g. Ephesians 6:12 (translated phrase "we wrestle" is aligned to Greek phrase ἔστιν ἡμῖν ἡ πάλη that is literally "is we the struggle")

That is helpful. But I note that the "sense" option does not throw up other figures of speech for the church . Hence while the references to the "body" are listed, the reference to the "building" and "holy temple" Eph 2:21 are not listed. If the purpose of this tool is to throw up synonyms so that a thread of thought could be pursued, this does not seem to be the case in this example.

Work around Morph Search includes Temple in Eph 2:21

Learned Holy (adjective) lacks Person and Thing tagging:

(<Person A Church> OR <Thing Body>) WITHIN 0 WORDS (@N OR @J)

This is correct as all references to the biblical entity are included whether direct references or by pronouns or implied subjects of verbs. The Concordance is not a tool for finding synonyms ... the Bible Sense Lexicon is more appropriate for that use. Do these get you near what you need?
