Failed Milestone Search

Why do the searches "greek perfect tense" WITHIN {Milestone <Bible Mt 18.18>} and "greek perfect tense" WITHIN {Milestone <Bible Jn 20.23>} fail to report the reference in The Expositor's Bible Commentary. Also, the bible references in the referred to passage in the EBC are not hyperlinked.

My suspicion for why the search fails is that it has not been tagged. If I am correct this will be a source of encouragement as it will confirm that I have insight into these matters. If I am wrong then I will have learned something.

I don't currently have access to that resource to check, but if you do a search for "greek perfect tense" in that resource, does it return any results in the milestone range you are searching for? If so, can you include a screenshot of that?

Those two searches fail because that particular phrase shows up in the parts of that reference that cover Matthew 16:13-20. That's why you get a search hit on the third search in your first screenshot: "greek perfect tense" WITHIN {Milestone <Bible Mt 16.19>}

If you can help me understand why you are expecting the result to show up in the other searches, then I can help you understand why it doesn't show up there.

With regards to the verses not being hyperlinked, I suspect it's because they are part of the book title. I'm not sure whether or not this is considered an error or intentional. I'll check with someone.

My intent was to find other resources where these verses were addressed with respect to the topic Greek perfect tense. I was surprised by the absence of the resource where I first encountered this topic for the verses mentioned.

Since Greek can be assumed with regards to that passage, and not all resources might use that full phrase, try the search: "perfect tense" WITHIN {Milestone <mt 18 18>}

You might also try the following search which may pick up a few additional relevant hits: "perfect tense" NEAR <mt 18 18>

Noticed a number of commentaries lack the words greek and tense near perfect so a simplified search idea is:

(perfect WITHIN {Milestone <mt16.19>}) OR (perfect NEAR <mt16.19>)

(perfect WITHIN {Milestone <Mt 18.18>}) OR (perfect NEAR <Mt 18.18>)

(perfect WITHIN {Milestone <Jn20.23>}) OR (perfect NEAR <jn20.23>)

Found one commentary has phrase "greek perfect tense" WITHIN Matthew 18:18

Search result colors are different for Milestone and NEAR since using OR. Also noted some false positives when searching All text so an ides is searching surface text.

Reduced false positives where perfect is used NEAR Matthew 18:18 that is not discussing Greek usage.

The remaining NEAR false positive search result is footnotes.
