Permanent license disappeared

The Meltho Fonts User Guide is a resource that I've had since the old Libronix days. It was carried over from version to version, and I remember I still had it on Logos 6 (after scanning the Libronix resources folder).

Yesterday, I noticed that this resource is no longer there on Logos 7. I also checked on my second device, that's still on Logos 6, and it's also missing from there.

Scanning the Libronix resources folder once more also doesn't add the resource back.

Now the Meltho Fonts User Guide is not really a resource that I urgently need, however, I find the random removal of a permanent license quite worrysome...

Logos should provide us with a notification when resources are removed from our libraries, in the same way they notify us when new resources have been added.

I've had Logos mistakenly remove books I've paid for from my library, and only after some detective work and pestering messages in the forums were they restored (several months after they were surreptitiously removed).

If Logos were to inform us of book removals, these things would be cleared up much more quickly.

Confirmed, I no longer have it on my system either. The resource itself is not a loss, but I agree the removal of a permanently licensed resource without prior explanation and notification is a concern.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but this is the thread of the resources that were accidentally removed from my library a few months ago. If Logos were to provide us with information when a resource is removed, we would be able to fix such problems more quickly.

It's hardly random when it's the removal of a help file about an Operating System that Logos hasn't supported for several years...

From a customer perspective it is random to have a resource with a permanent license removed from you library without notification. In this instance you Mark you are thinking like the person at Faithlife who made the decision to remove this resource license but did not think customers were worth informing of the decision to remove it, let alone provide us with a basic explanation as to the reason.

Jan has raised a serious concern here that deserves a response from Faithlife rather than an MVP brush off. Mark please don't think like the Faithlife employee who only saw the logic of their choice and forgot about the customer experience of this decision. Think instead like a customer - they have taken this resource away without telling us - what other thing might they have taken without telling us or what things will they in the future take without telling us.

I apologise if you thought I was giving a brush-off. But you'll be glad to know that my response doesn't prevent a Faithlife response, nor indeed make it any less likely.

Whilst I understand why some people might be upset in principle if Faithlife remove licences (assuming that's what's happened), I simply felt that the resource removal wasn't "random" as claimed. I try to be very precise with my own language, particularly online, and I tend expect the same from others. Personally, I find that overstating a problem doesn't help, and can put people on the defensive (as happened here).

But I know it's not my job as an MVP to impose my standards on another people, so perhaps it would have been better for me to bite my tongue.

I presume this is the same user guide here. I suppose it could be made into a PB? Doesn't resolve the license loss alarm, but at least the library resource counter would be up to snuff.

I've always felt Libby was never random.

Even as we approach Libby's 10th anniversary (or passed it, I forget), her resources are still featured in spanish packages, and yes, (per Logos), her resources are still available for purchase, even if not really.

Plus, she preserves authentic translations of God's Holy Word (that'd be NIV 84 and the non-perminent ESV). And uncontaminated morph assignments, too.

There's not really a "supposed" or "not supposed" with this resource.

It was frequently distributed in LDLS3 without going through the official license server (I'm not sure why). So you could have it in LDLS3 without having any purchase record for it.

That doesn't mean you're not "supposed" to have it; it just means that we never knew you had it. (Which is also why there wasn't an email to everyone who would be affected, because we don't have a list of those people.)

If you want it back, we can manually unlock it on your account, and it will automatically download.

Don't worry. If I ever should need it, I can still download the Word document from the publisher.

I believe that might still be possible. If you run the Series X update script on LDLS3, it shows under optional downloads.

Thanks Mark for your response. I know MVP's have the best of intentions, and are only human, but sometimes they forget to step back and look at things from the perspective of an outsider.

This particular instance may not have been random but the experience of finding a licensed resource missing without communication is random and is what was the concern. Your explanation of the instance and why it could not be better communicated is however accepted Bradley as the whole thing being a series of unfortunate events.
