As always, I am posting this for the benefit of those who may not know this already.
Timeline is a great tool but if we don't know how to use it best, it can give us too much information. For instance, let's suppose that I am interested in knowing when Plutarch and Suetonius lived as well as a couple well-known Caesars (Julius and Augustus) so that I can place them in relation to the life of Jesus and the writing of the Gospels. If I type Plutarch, Suetonius, Julius, Augustus in the filter field, I get this:

A bit of a pain to locate lifetimes only. In order to see them only, I need to click on the Type heading (next to the filter field). This brings up a list and another blank field. Type "lifespan". Select it, unselect other categories, et voilà:

This of course works with other categories as well (try "reign" for instance) but I focused on lifespan because I use it all the time and I assume that many other people do as well.
