runtime error when trying to start L4

I cannot get my L4 to start properly. Every time I try to start it I get a windows runtime error message. I can start my L4 holding down the ctrl key and work offline, but I cannot open a blank layout or the system gets the same error message. I recently installed "The Lucado Lifeworks Library" to my L3 and "Palestine in the Time of Jesus" though I am having trouble with that because it was sold to me on half.com (book & CD-Rom) as never being used, but the serial key will not work, saying that it has already been used (I am working with support on that right now). My L3 still works, but I cannot get my L4 to work now (in the normal mode). I don't know if these installs could be a part of the problem, but also my computer seems to be having some windows issues. I cannot get my latest 2 windows updates to install, and when I do restart my computer windows gets some sort of message and turns something off. I am not really sure what it is. Any suggestions?

we need to know what the error message is. This would be a great place to turn on Diagnostic Logging and Uploading Logs.

Again, knowing exactly what the messages are, and what is turned off (if it says) would be helpful.

It uploaded OK - just no crash information.

Ensure permanent logging is enabled and start L4 normally. When the crash occurs wait about 1 minute before closing L4 and upload the log file before you start it again.

OK, I allowed the program to sit a bit longer at the startup, and there are error messages in the log file. Also, I noticed that the gray L4 "Signing In" boxes will appear on top of the Runtime error box if I do not click "OK". Then it just "hangs" and never does anything until I click "OK" which closes L4 completely. Also, here is my comp info:

There appears be a problem with downloads both in Logos and Windows from what you said earlier.

From Windows Start menu, type services.msc into the Find box & click the program name to start it.
locate the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
if Startup Type is Disabled right click & select Properties. Set the type to Manual and click the Start button. Click OK & start L4.

If that service is OK & L4 still crashes the fix is going to be complicated and I would suggest you contact Technical Support directly.

I did this, and the BITS was set on "Automatic Delayed" - I changed it to "Manual" and still no success. I also tried it on "Automatic" and on "Disabled," but no success. I can use my L4 to work offline, and type in "sync now" and also "update now" they seem to work, yet on the update it says that there are none and I cannot download my newer books into my L4. - I guess I will contact Tech Support directly like Dave suggested unless anybody has any other ideas?!

Finally the problem is resolved!! I called customer support and it took them quite some time to figure it out. They tried to reinstall L4, as well as other common fixes but those didn't work. They said it was a unique problem. They finally found that there was some kind of problem with file in the "Data" folder. They took it out of the "C:\Users\Jeremy\AppData\Local\Logos4" folder, and started up my L4. This time it connected just fine, but I was forced to redownload all of my resources and to reindex as well.
