Copy/Paste Footnotes in Word for Mac Workaround

Would really appreciate quick replies because now I can't even use Word. It keeps giving me error messages that "Changes have been made that affect the global template. Do you want to save these changes?"

For those curious, if I do say I'd like to save the changes to the global template, it tells me that it cannot save while the file is in use by another process and it needs to be saved with another name.

Resolved. Manually updated Word (not Office 365, just regular 2016) and it is now working without the workaround. Woohoo!
