Bloomsbury Bundle

Does anyone remember what the Bloomsbury Bundle was priced at around this time last year? The last conversation I had with Dave Kaplan was about getting it, but that was when he informed me of the restructured financing plans, which killed that idea in the womb.

Looks like it was 70% off last year - https://community.logos.com/forums/p/119607/785690.aspx

Unfortunately, in this sale, the price per resource is double as high as last year. I wished I had purchased it then.

Thanks, Graham. That's what I recalled. And so, as much as I want this...having wanted it last year but being denied...I'm going to pass on it again.

I realize that "window" sales are intended to generate urgency in buyers and thus motivate "pulling the trigger", however, not being fabulously wealthy with unlimited disposable income that I'm able to free up on a moments notice, all that such sales tend to do in me is generate resentment. The thing that I deeply appreciated about Dave Kaplan is that he worked with me and did his "magic" that allowed me to take advantage of opportunities when it suited my circumstances. Of the $30K+ I have spent on Logos over the years, I can say that without Dave's hand making it possible for me, my total would certainly be less than $10K. If Dave was still with Logos, I suspect my total would easily be over $40K by now, and who knows, I might even own L7. Over the years, there were a few things Dave admitted he couldn't do for me...and so I never did them.

I don't now remember whether it was Baker, or Eerdmans, or Fortress Press, but one of those publishers came out with a huge bundle a few years back and by the time I found it online, the price was about $1400 if memory serves. I was excited and was strongly considering it. Then I found out that an email had gone out advertising a $999 price for some brief window of time about a week earlier. I didn't get that email (even though I was receiving regular emails), and I found out about the sale a day or two after that "special" price was withdrawn. The upshot? I didn't get the bundle even though I wanted it. What's more, as far as I know, I haven't knowingly purchased anything from that publisher since, even though on many occasions I have wanted specific items in their catalog. Plain and simple, I never will...unless I am able to get that bundle or its equivalent at the same price point. See, I KNOW IT'S POSSIBLE...and I don't appreciate being jerked around.

Zondervan is another publisher that irked me with its marketing practices, so I boycotted them routinely from the time they started with Logos...with an occasional exception here and there, such as when they offered the old EBC for the silly cheap price of $129 or thereabout. After holding off for some time (partly because of their refusal to allow dynamic pricing), I finally decided that putting it off was no longer necessary. Plus, I got a very strong feeling that something was about to happen to that series. I thought it might disappear, but instead about a week after I bought it, Z jacked the price back up to over $300. I see now they have finally come to their senses regarding offering sales and dynamic pricing, so I might break down at some point and get one or two of their bundles, but I've done without for so long, I certainly feel no rush now.

Getting back to the Bloomsbury Bundle, if the publisher wants my money, and FL wants my money, they can shoot me an email with the 2015 offer I told Dave I wanted to get last year but couldn't get due to the "financing shift" blindside. It all comes down to making attractive offers that I can negotiate WHEN I'M ACTUALLY ABLE TO MOVE ON THEM, along with not making decisions that literally prevent me from spending money. Making an offer I must act upon on your timetable pretty much means you will NEVER see my money. I can't speak for others, but attempting to coerce me with out-of-the-blue "limited time offers" only serves to piss me off and hide my wallet, especially when the only thing FL consistently had going for them, Dave Kaplan, isn't around to make things possible and appealing.

The dynamic pricing ends when the sale ends. Zondervan only has helped a small number of people who wanted to complete particular sets and can presently afford it.

I definitely agree that timing is everything. I'd been asking for dynamic pricing for WBC for a long time, but couldn't afford to purchase the rest of the set at this specific time. The set was even cheaper in 2015. Unfortunately I wasn't a Logos customer then.

The WBC volumes had been on sale for $9.99 in 2015. I don't know if/when that price would come around again, but I didn't pass up a few needed volumes, even though they're only on sale for $14.99 this year.

Because you are relatively new to FL & Logos, you haven't yet learned that certain large "big ticket" resources are on an approximate year or two-year sale cycle. NICOT/NT, Hermeneia/Continental, WBC, ICC, AYB, and a few others tend to get put on sale every 12-24 months. Nelson (WBC's pub) was being rather piggish like Zondervan regarding dynamic pricing for awhile. I don't know where they stand now, but perhaps they will move in the right direction now that Z has relented some.

If Z is only posturing at playing nice, they will continue to get bricked by me. They aren't "doing me a favor" with flash sales. I'm doing them a favor when I take money I can spend on a plethora of other options and send some their way IF and WHEN they stop acting like Marie Antoinette.

It may or may not be an option, but one way to resolve this might be to get a base package that has WBC in it. Based on how the dynamic of BPs works, you would effectively be getting WBC on a dynamic basis.

One distinction is that Zondervan controls whether their products can be bundled.

I can get Hermeneia/Continental, ICC, and AYB in a library at a steeper discount than buying the set.

My sales rep said, "No bundling, no discounts, no dynamic pricing for Zondervan," although he had helped me save money with other purchases. I don't think Zondervan is doing themselves any favors, but who knows how much they profit, compared to lost sales.

I always check to see if something is available in a library. I've bought a few other denominational libraries when it was the cheapest way to get some sets I had wanted.

Unless Zondervan changes their policy, FL apparently can't include WBC in a library.

I was about to follow up my comment earlier but then had to run an errand. I checked and as you say, it doesn't appear that WBC is offered any longer as part of base packages of any sort. That is a bit of a surprise since they were one of the main attractions for a long time. As I mentioned before, Nelson and not Z is the publisher of WBC, so it is Nelson that is the sticking point.

I thought Zondervan bought Nelson; hence the jacking up on prices.

Hence no longer in base packages.

Oh, perhaps so. I might have even known that at some point and blocked it out as trauma victims are wont to do.
