Is there a way to have two Layouts open at the same time? Say one on Matthew and another on James?
I don't believe this is not possible unless you have multiple computers or you redesign your one layout to include both.
OK, Bruce, "do you" or "don't you"??!
Two laptops side-by-side was the first thing that came to mind, which Bruce covered in his answer.
Dueling layouts, with the requisite banjo music, was the second thing that came to mind.
you could do it on the Mac if they would enable tabs. It used to be enabled, sort of. But, recently they took that away.
Yes by using more than one computer OR using two programs at the same time on one computer (needs adequate space for duplication of resources and indexes).
Logos 7 and Verbum 7 can each have one Layout open at a time, which is a set of panels and tabs. Logos 7 could have a layout on Matthew open (with desired panels and tabs) while Verbum 7 could have a layout on James open.

Welcome to the forums!! I have a laptop with another screen plugged into it, if that is what you mean you can. That is have logos open on both screens but only one will have the blue ribbon at the top. You can have a different study on each screen. I hope this helps, Matt
Ralph:
This might be a variation of what Matt is referring to. You could design a primary layout, then open a resource in a floating window and drag resources to that until you like it, then save the layout. When you next open the layout, the secondary floating window, with all of its resource will open, too. If you have two monitors, I think you could put each on a monitor. I don't have two monitors, but Alt+Tab works fine for me.
Below is an example of what Robert is talking about with four monitors:
For instance, from the homepage, I did a passage search for Revelation 1:12-20. I then opened volumes on Daniel 7:13, starting in a separate window moved to another monitor, and I then started moving all resources on Daniel there. I organized the other two monitors similarly.
you redesign your one layout to include both.
That is the way I accomplish this. On the secondary display I set up floating windows containing what is essentially a separate layout.
Main screen = 1 John layout
Secondary display = anything else of interest so as not to disturb 1 John (Much smaller display)
Ralph,
My layouts tend to be similar to what Jack has shared. It is possible as well to do multiple studies on one page so to speak. You can open multiple copies in a new tab and move them to a secondary row on the page. You can then “link set” the top row all to one letter (A for example) and “link set” the second row to another letter (B for example). The books of each row would then track with the other books on the corresponding row, allowing a double study on one page, if so desired.
I want to open multiple instances of logos because I am studying different items with different layouts as I see fit and when I require it. a simple program like eSword would allow me to do that, but I am heavily invested in Logos. There is a need for it and Logos 10 is currently not fulfilling that need. Floating windows does nothing to resolve this requirement at all. I am on Windows 11 which allows me to open different desktops, and even with this functionality Logos does NOT allow me to open different instances on each desktop. How limiting is this! Why are we on Logos 10 and this is still not possible?
A running instance of Logos has one layout. Now, in Logos one can setup multiple layouts for various study scenarios according to how one works and requires. I am not a person that is multitasking in the sense that I am simultaneously (that is, at the exact same time) doing two or more studies with different layouts ... I rather work on one at any given time. Thus, when I require a change from one study to another, I simply switch to the respective layout which I have set up and saved in Logos. This takes just one click and a few seconds until the needed layout has loaded.
I have added layouts with which I currently work to "Favorites" in the "Application > Quick Links" section and thus can even switch from layout to layout via keyboard shortcut. Before changing to a different layout I "update current layout" via a link I put in short cut bar so that I will get the current working situation when returning to this layout and not lose anything I had been working on.
At this time, I am not seeing a need or benefit to have multiple instances of Logos open and running ... since I would only be working on one ata time anyways.
a simple program like eSword would allow me to do that,
Looks like you nailed it. A simple program, yes. You CAN operate a Logos and a Verbum. 2 libraries downloaded, but who cares.
Agree with Wolfgang. My layout is 7 windows. Maybe 150 resources. I combine a research layout, an OT layout, an NT layout, and reading layout. For going on 15 years now. Quite stable.
There is another possibility and I'm a little surprised that no one has mentioned it, unless I just overlooked it. That possibility is to open one layout in the desktop app and a second layout using the web app. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, you can actually open multiple web apps. That could let you have almost endless possibilities.

You did overlook something, but it wasn't your good idea. You overlooked when this thread was created and when most of the posts were made. (The web app wasn't around at the time).
What I would like to do in terms of multiple layouts is this:
1. I have a Thompson Chain Reference Layout set up it multiple bibles, Thomson notes and target hyperlink per a concept from Morris Proctor.
2. I would like to be able to open any one of my layouts, and then add my Thompson layout as a base
I have tried several methods to upload a screen shot to illustrate what I am trying to do. No luck, Uploading link, copy/paste, nothing works. Any ideas on that front as an aside.
This is not possible - opening the Thompson layout would replace the one you have open.
Conceptually, how would you see it working? Presumably some of the tiles in the Thompson layout are in the same place as tiles in your other layouts. How would you like that "conflict" to be handled?

Try using the paperclip icon in the forum editor.
Paper Clip icon does not produce a result, I've tried jpeg, png, tiff, etc etc. No result
Basically my request is to allow multiple layouts pure and simple.
That's strange - I'm afraid I can't explain why
As per my post above, only one layout can be open at a time. And I'm not sure how it would work as I don't see how the software could handle "conflicts" in tile placements.
Thanks
Two virtual logos desktops. Something along the lines of "spaces" in macOS.
This is what I would like to add to any given layout I may be using/
Have you tried adding it as a floating window to each of your layouts? Depending on your layouts this might be time consuming to set up but useful in the long run.
Alternatively, have you tried running it in Verbum while running you second layout in Logos? Whether or not this is sufficient depends on the specs of your machine.
Interesting idea. Thanks. My machine is fairly robust. iMac Pro 10 Core, 64 Gig Ram. Will give it a try. @MJ Smith Do I need to purchase a separate copy of verbum to try this strategy?
MJ smith I have downloaded Verbum. It appears that Ii need to download my resources again, creating a duplicate library.
It appears that Ii need to download my resources again, creating a duplicate library.
That is correct - there is no sharing of resources between the two applications.
Thanks. My solution appears to buy a MacBook Air and run my Thompson Chain layout side by side with mg desktop.
Appreciate the feedback from you and MJ Smith

I'm intrigued to hear this!
Why do you see this better than having side-by-side copies of Logos and Verbum on your desktop? You will have duplicate libaries in both cases.
I just figure, I want two clean copies. When I teach I can bring my laptop to the venue.
I also think, having a separate monitor screen on the laptop, will allow me to have a utility monitor for all things Thompson. Less window/screen management in my cluttered mind when I am at my home study location
