I need some help with using an extended monitor

I have my new Dell Studio XPS 16 and I can't seem to get it to work with my extended monitor.

My laptop is running Windows 7 (64bit) and has a native screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz (I increased the DPI to 150%). My monitor is an Acer AL1917W and has a native screen resolution of 1440 x 900 @ 60Hz.

When I move something (program, etc) from my laptop to the extended monitor it becomes much larger (in proportion to the monitor itself).

If the DPI on the extended monitor is set to 150%, that reduces your effective resolution to 1280x720, which is obviously less than your laptop. Just change the DPI setting back to default.

Or you can increase the DPI on your external monitor.
