Crash when opening collections (4.0b)

I installed 4.0b today with no problems and it is busy indexing. I created a collection named "All Resources" using "rating:>=0" so I could create a bibliography of my entire library. Now when I click to open my collections the program crashes. Could this be due to the fact that it is still indexing? The indexer is not affected by the crash; it's still humming.

It just finished creating the Bible index, now it is indexing the entire library. I was under the impression that it would only create the new Bible index?? Could this have anything to do with the crash? May have to wait and see until indexing is complete.

The crash log shows that it is associated with your collections in some way. Indexing should have no effect on what is happening.

It seems that this could be due to a corruption in your collections. You can try deleting your collections database found at:

C:\Users\{User Name}\AppData\Local\Logos4\Documents\{Randon String}\ResourceCollectionManager

When you reopen Logos 4 it should attempt to re-download your collection data. Then try opening collections again.

No. There are some new features in 4.0b that require a reindex. If you were already using 4.0b in beta form this wouldn't have happened. My computer is reindexing everything as well.

Thanks Mark for the replies. I tried deleting the ResourceCollectionManager.db file but I cannot because it says it is in use by the indexer. I may have to wait another 3 hours or so before I can try that.

I waited for it to finish indexing and tried again and it still crashed. I then deleted the ResourceCollectionManager.db and restarted Logos. Logos did download the file from the server, but unfortunately the program still crashes when trying to open collections.

From the logos4.txt it appears you were working off-line. Is this how you logged in? How did you know it downloaded the "file" (collections?) from the server? It also found an existing ResourceCollectionManager.db. So I'd like you to try the following:-

delete the ResourceCollectionManager.db at E:\Logos4\Documents\xzchnjv1.s2p\ResourceCollectionManager\
ensure permanent logging is on
start L4 whilst holding down the Ctrl key and choose to work offline
access Collections
If it doesn't crash create a collection or two, but NOT the All Resources one
if it crashes wait a minute before uploading the log (do not restart L4 until this has happened).

Thanks Dave for the reply. I should have been more clear on my response. Here are the steps I took:

1. After indexing was finished, I opened up Logos and tried opening collections -- then crash

2. I then deleted the .db file and reopened Logos. I saw the folder repopulate with the .db file I just deleted. It either downloaded the file or simply recreated the file. I assumed downloaded. I then tried to open collections -- then crash.

3. I then opened Logos in debug/offline mode by holding down the ctrl key while opening Logos and clicked to run offline. I reproduced the crash and attached that log.

I just got back in from class and now have to go to work, so I will try your suggestion later this evening and report back.

L4 had no problem recreating the database, so it seems connected to opening Collections ie. does it crash when click to open Collections? Do you do so from a tab in a Layout or from the Tools menu?

If one exists close the Collections tab and try the Tools menu ie. recreate the tab. What are the results?

In all of these instances I have been trying to open the collections from the Tools menu. As soon as I click on Collections it crashes.

This is my last suggestion and then you should contact Tech Support direct.

If you have another installation of L4 then delete the "All Resources" collection. Wait a few minutes. Then repeat my previous advice for the problem system, starting with the deletion of ResourceCollectionManager.db.

Thanks again for the help. It looks like I will be contacting tech support for this one. After my netbook updated to 4.0b and I went to open Collections it crashed too. I don't understand this since even with a clean ResourceCollectionManager.db file it still does this. I will post the solution when I receive it.

Please don't delete Logos 4 databases, or recommend that other users delete Logos 4 databases without explicit instruction from the development team.

Deleting database files is not guaranteed to be safe, and even if it "works" in one version of the software, there are no guarantees that it will still "work" in the next. Additionally, deleting the resource collections database does not cause collections to be synced automatically; you will lose (on this computer) all the collections that were in the DB (until they're modified on another computer, which will force re-syncing).
